“You must go back to being a pianist.” 🎹 Will, an Indonesian friend who I met in Canggu 2 months ago said this to me upon his departure in an extremely sincere and serious manner. At the time, my limited belief told me I wasn’t good enough and would never make it as a pianist or a musician alone. I’ll always need to side hustle and juggle other types of work at the same time. Looking back, this is actually all very funny because I know my musical creativity has been there all along, and it was already unleashed when began to improvise on the piano at the age of 7. 🤭 . I took a long break from doing anything with the piano since I arrived Bali. (2.5 months is a long time for someone who’s been playing since 4 y/o!) Towards the end of my stay, my desire to let music flow through me was stronger than over. The Universe helped me to connect to this lovely grand piano (that still needs a little tuning after tuning 😛) at @paradisoubud , and I was unable to stop for the hour. I could probably keep going if I had more time. 🧚🏼♀️ . Our ideas of what’s good and not good ONLY exist in the programming we received from the environment we were brought up in, and my years of training as a classical pianist was my greatest advantage and my biggest enemy. I love it when I could conquer another great classical composition, but borderless creation is what’s missing in that equation. 👁 . I want to play more and create more. I have all these energy that wants to come out in the form of music. 🧝🏼♀️ . I’m extremely grateful to those who came to hear me play and invited me to play when I was in Ubud. Your appreciation meant a lot to me and has definitely helped me to reclaim my identity as a musician. 🙏 . I’m surrendering to my calling. Two more days until I have access to a piano again, and I cannot wait to have more output!
