Inuyasha ending 7 "Come"
Hear me out.
InuYasha was not that great of a show. The characters were kind of one dimensional, the masculinity was mad toxic, and their relationships were all based off of abuse of some sort. Heck. Most of the episodes are filler.
Now, what if the reason why we’re all so captivated by the series is because there’s a spell woven into the ending themes.
Most of us have memories of sitting in front of the TV in the middle of the night just absolutely *enraptured* by the ending songs. I don’t know. It’s just insane that this show captured our hearts and minds like 15 years ago and yet it’s something we can’t forget.
You hated the canon ending? May I ask why?
Sure!
Well specifically, I hated the three year separation.
You can actually hear me rant and rave about that exact thing HERE on the podcast I’ve started co-hosting with @mustardyellowsunshine (if you want to actually hear my vehement dislike up close and personal)
But I also realize maybe you don’t have the time to listen through a podcast and… I would hate it in a box, and i would hate it with a fox, and i would hate it in a house, and i would hate it with a mouse, and… (you see where I’m going with this.) So I don’t mind repeating myself and maybe adding some things.
First, the characters go through a HUGE fight that everyone nearly died in, Inuyasha JUST realizes that he’s meant to be with Kagome, he claws his way to her, saves her, and then they just DROP a THREE YEAR separation on them that could have EASILY been avoided. (and in the manga WITH NO KISS??!!)
Like, if RT wanted to avoid the whole “she’s too young to leave home/quit school” thing then she could have freaking made Kagome a little older from the start. (She certainly looked it!)
OR she could have made the two HUNDRED something chapters MEAN something and AGED everyone over the course of three years WHILE they were searching for the shards!!! (a fanon I personally adopted into my heart)
Next, the thing with the well not opening again until she was ready (or felt she was ready?) just felt like an excuse to opt out of writing a story encouraging young girls to quit school for their love lives instead of something REALISTIC to the STORY.
You know, the story where she’d be going to live in the FEUDAL ERA??? where diplomas are completely USELESS??? (GAH)
Instead, we see an ending where Kagome just sort of puts Inuyasha off to the side for three years while he’s still trying to get through the well EVERY THREE DAYS and she’s just going to school and living a normal life. Reading, it feels like he’s more of just an afterthought and she doesn’t really expect to ever see him again, and it HURTS.
RT could have at LEAST done Kagome’s feelings and her determined nature some justice and had her scrambling to find a way back to Inuyasha the way he was so clearly trying to get to her.
And then if RT still needed the three year separation she could have made it so one of them or both had a breakthrough with the well that felt more (earned?). No wishy washy “my feelings changed” bullshit.
(Although I’d rather she just aged Kagome over the course of the story and avoided the separation altogether. I would have much preferred the angst of her being abruptly separated from her family who she was going to eventually leave ANYWAY)
And I guess yeah she could have ended up separating them FOREVER but (thank goodness) that’s not the subject here.
Love needs to be fed, even if it’s just through letters. And three years is a lot of time to starve a relationship. Something like that has consequences. Acting like an (abrupt and complete) separation of three years is just a little road bump is… ugh. It’s a gut punch and not in a good way.
Alright! I hope my long ass angry rant answered your question Anon!
Have a good one!
