The Town of Invergarry. December 11, 6:01 PM.

Invergarry is twenty miles south of the laboratory. Every day after work, I take a train home; it takes nearly an hour because of how old the tracks are and how many times I have to transfer. Coming home to Invergarry is never my favorite part of the day. This ruin of a town is littered by garbage, inhabited by addicts and smugglers, and the rotten stench of death and decay wafts through the air twenty-four hours a day. But today was different. I’ve always thought that the first snow of December had a sort of purifying power. Maybe it’s because it forces everyone into their decrepit homes, leaving the streets nearly empty, or because for a brief moment I’m reminded that something as pure as snow still exists in a town - no, a world - as corrupt as this one.
