Jessica Delboni takes UD over Danielle Taylor.
Not a great fight but a good win for Delboni following losing the title. Took some lumps as Taylor can land that big overhand when she decides to throw it. But it’s always few and far between. Delboni’s pressure and slightly higher work rate carrier her through this one as she really invested in kicking Taylor’s legs. She seemed frustrated trying to track down Taylor, both being wary of the counter and having difficulty with Taylor’s speed. But she found her target often enough to win out on the cards.
The John Dodson offensive playbook only works when you are a comparative puncher to John Dodson, who is both arguably one of the top 5 punchers and athletes in MMA history. And it didn’t work for him all the time either! Taylor has it in her mind that she’s got fight ending power, but that type of 1 punch counter punching power is RARE. Especially when you weigh 1115lbs. And ESPECIALLY when you’re not trying to engineer collisions that exacerbate your power. Taylor just waits around for her opponent to step into range and ends up losing staring matches she probably should win because she is a great puncher and a good athlete. But you have to put offense out there.
