I think a lot of this discourse with Amber could have been avoided if she didn’t Mark was Invincible when he revealed his secret identity to her. Amber wouldn’t get back with Mark, and she could say something along the lines of “Just because I have context, that doesn’t change the past or how you made me feel. If you really cared about me, you would have revealed yourself to me months ago instead of now as a last ditch effort to get us back together.”
And I wouldn’t have had Amber get back with Mark in episode 8, instead of kissing him I think Amber just should have said “Look, we broke up, but that doesn’t mean I hate you or think you’re evil.” End the season with the possibility of Mark and Amber repairing their relationship in the future.
That’s just my take on it.
I agree with a lot of this truthfully. It's funny, in the comics, Amber specifically figured out that Mark was Invincible, after breaking up with him and not even speaking to him for like a month, but as soon as she confronted him on it and he fessed up... she had sex with him for the first time lol. So... I have to say, a lot of the reaction from fans is also rooted deeply in misogyny because in the show, Amber dared to defend her intelligence against Mark's weak excuses.
I actually really don't like the way they got back together in the last episode. I wish it'd been more of a, "I'm giving you one last chance, but if you fuck up again, I'm out," kind of thing on her end. Like you said, Amber knows Mark wasn't being malicious or intentionally hurtful all the times he stood her up or bailed on her, but that doesn't mean he didn't do it, and that doesn't mean it didn't effect her. Honestly, I think she gave him too many chances before they broke up lol.
That said, I am looking forward to see how the show further develops their relationship from here. I'd like to see them actually overcome the obstacles that were between them over Mark's secret identity. And now that she knows, hopefully they can work through things a little better.
