Seblaine Week Day 1: You are so pretty (Confessions / In vino veritas)
Set during the time when Blaine is still in school and Kurt is in New York (but they are still together, as strained as their relationship is). Mostly canon-compliant except for the weird steroids-storyline I always ignore.
I'm losing my self control
Yeah, you're starting to trickle back in
But I don't wanna fall down the rabbit hole
Cross my heart, I won't do it again.
Katy Perry is blasting through the speakers as Sebastian sits on Thad’s couch and sips his scotch. Around him, boys are dancing, laughing and talking, for once stripped of their preppy navy blue and red. Next to him, Nick and Jeff are discussing a new video game (or something equally lame, he doesn’t actually listen). All he does is stare at one boy, dressed in red chinos and a t-shirt that hugs his small waist perfectly. Sebastian’s way above drooling over a boy, of course, but if he wasn’t? Blaine Anderson – slightly drunk and absolutely carefree – would be a sight to drool over. If he only realized how ridiculously handsome he is…
Sebastian takes another sip. It’s about one in the morning already and slowly, people start to leave. Actually, he just wanted to stop by this Warblers’ party for an hour or so – as Captain, he felt it was his duty to at least show up but he didn’t intend to spend his whole Saturday night watching teenage boys get plastered on cheap beer. No, thank you.
Much to his surprise, the offered alcohol was way more exquisite than he anticipated. He tells himself that’s why he stayed. Not because when he arrived at about 10pm, an already tipsy curly haired boy stumbled into him and gave him the biggest smile with an exasperated “Oh my God, Sebastian, you’re here! It’s so good to see you!” before he hugged him tightly. It makes Sebastian a little dizzy but he tells himself that’s because he hasn’t eaten in hours and not because of the way Blaine smells like vanilla and raspberry and smooth skin (because really? Smooth skin? How does that even smell?). Anyway, he stayed. And he watched.
Sebastian looks down at his almost empty glass. He should probably get another one soon but he’d have to get up for that and he doesn’t want to lose his spot with the perfect view of Blaine Anderson’s ass dancing. He looks around, tries to spot someone walking towards the kitchen who could get him a refill but there’s no one in sight. When he turns around again, the red chino pants are gone. Sebastian’s blinks in confusion. Then he feels the couch dip beneath him.
“Gosh, it’s so hot in here!”, Blaine exclaims. Sebastian looks to his left where Blaine is sprawled out over the couch and the armrest like a starfish. He grins and raises his eyebrows. “Well, Killer, you just spent 30 minutes dancing nonstop – no wonder you’re all hot and bothered.”
Blaine scrunches his nose (and Sebastian is tempted to add ‘in an adorable way’ but forbids himself to think that) and shakes his head. “I’m not hot and bothered, I’m just hot.”
Sebastian laughs, takes another sip and winks at him. “Can’t argue with that.”
Blaine looks at him with confusion in his eyes before he realizes the double meaning. He blushes a little and mumbles: “That’s not what I meant…” Next, his eyes fall on Sebastian’s glass. “What’s that?”
Sebastian looks down and back up at Blaine. “Scotch. Probably a little strong for you.”
Blaine huffs, sits up and reaches for the glass. “I can decide that for myself, thank you very much.” He gulps down the rest of the brown liquid and immediately starts coughing. Sebastian gently pats his back and takes the glass back from him.
“Told you, it’s strong”, he muses, “Blaine Anderson, always the rebel.”
When Blaine catches his breath again, he hands Sebastian the now-empty glass back. “How on earth can you drink something like that? It’s like gasoline! I can literally feel it burning away my taste buds!”
Sebastian laughs. “You’re such a drama queen…”
Blaine takes a few deep breaths to calm himself. “Is that what you put in your coffee all the time?”
“Technically no, that’s Courvoisier. But it’s in the same family, I guess.”
Blaine shakes his head and lets himself slump down again. Then he huffs. “I’m still hot…”, he side-glances at Sebastian who raises one eyebrow, “And I mean my body temperature.”
“Whatever you say, Killer.”
He puts the glass down on the table. “We could go out to the balcony for a little if you want.”
Blaine nods slowly and reaches up his arms. “Help me up!”
Sebastian laughs, gets up and takes Blaine’s hands. “You’re quite bossy when you’re drunk, anyone ever told you that?” He pulls Blaine up who almost loses his balance at the sudden movement and tumbles into Sebastian’s chest.
Yet, he manages to mutter: “You’re quite bossy all the time, anyone ever told you that?” Sebastian snorts and pulls Blaine in the direction of the balcony. “Every day, it’s part of my charm.”
“If you say so…”
Just before they need to turn left into the hallway, Blaine stops and pulls Sebastian into the kitchen. “Wait, I want another drink.”
“Don’t you think you had enough Appletinis for one night?”, he asks amused as he pours himself another glass of Scotch over some ice cubes. Blaine looks at him as if he genuinely thinks about it. Nonetheless, he shakes his head.
“Nope. I didn’t have one Appletini, to be honest.” He looks around the kitchen table full of bottles. “What do I need for an Appletini?”
Sebastian grins and comes up behind Blaine. Suddenly, the air around them changes. It feels electrified and heavy when he takes a step closer so that their bodies almost touch and reaches around Blaine for a glass and the bottle of vodka. He could stick his tongue out and taste the drops of sweat on Blaine’s neck, that’s how close they are. It takes all of his self-control not to do so. Instead, he pushes the glass into Blaine’s left hand and pours some vodka before he puts the bottle back and reaches for the apple juice.
“Usually”, he murmurs into Blaine’s right ear and hears him gasp lightly, “usually, you would put some ice, vodka, apple schnapps and lemon juice in a shaker.” He pours a little apple juice into the vodka. Blaine watches, mesmerized. “But we don’t have a shaker or apple schnapps, so that’ll have to do.” He puts the bottle way again and searches for a few slices of lemon. They are a little further away than the rest of stuff they used but instead of taking a step to the right, Sebastian puts a hand on Blaine’s hip in order to not lose his balance, turns a bit and reaches. He feels Blaine’s body going rigid when Sebastian’s left hip lightly grazes his ass for the second Sebastian needs to grab the slices of lemon and Sebastian’s fingers dig into Blaine’s hip when he shifts his weight and pushes himself back into his initial position. He puts one of the slices into Blaine’s free hand and leads it until it hovers over the glass. “Squeeze”, he orders. Blaine swallows visibly, looks up at him over his shoulder, then nods and does as he was told.
One after the other, all of the three pieces of lemon get squeezed into the glass. Blaine’s hand gets all sticky and Sebastian draws in a sharp breath when instead of rubbing it into a towel or something, Blaine licks the juice from his fingers. This is getting way too dangerous…
To distract himself from the downright sinful image of Blaine sucking on his index finger, he takes three or four ice cubes and lets them fall into Blaine’s glass. Ultimately, he takes a spoon, gives the sort-of-Appletini-mixture a stir before clinking it against the glass and pushing the spoon into Blaine’s mouth. “So? What do you think?”, he asks as he takes a step back and looks at Blaine expectantly. He thinks he hears Blaine release a sigh he was holding but he could be wrong.
“Delicious”, Blaine states around the spoon in his mouth but he seems kind of out of breath.
“Good.” Sebastian clears his throat. “So, wanna go outside?”
Blaine only nods, grabs his drink and lets Sebastian put a hand on his lower back to guide him out of the room.
It’s surprisingly quiet and empty on the balcony, Trent and Thad just coming back in when they’re going out. Sebastian greets them with a short nod, Blaine doesn’t seem to notice them at all.
“Hey, B, you alright?”, Trent asks with worry in his voice.
“Sebastian didn’t do anything, right?”, Thad follows.
Sebastian rolls his eyes. They should just man up and admit how fucking in love they are with Blaine, this is so ridiculous.
It’s only then that Blaine raises his gaze and smiles at his two friends. “No, no, he didn’t… he just… we, umm… he showed me how to mix an Appletini.” He holds up his glass with the greenish-brown liquid. “Nothing happened, really”, he adds and even to Sebastian it sounds kind of forced. The old Sebastian inside of him revels in how much a little private cocktail lesson with a few purposeful words and touches could mess with Blaine. On the outside, he just smiles at Thad and Trent and pushes Blaine through the door on the big balcony. “Boys, if you’ll excuse us, it’s way too crowded in here and we need a breather…”
The balcony is dark, the only source of light some candles on a small wooden table, two white wooden chairs next to it. Sebastian sinks down on one of them, Blaine stays standing in front of him, leaning against the steel railing, sipping his drink. Neither says a word for a few moments until Blaine breaks the silence.
“What was that?”
Sebastian looks up at him and raises one eyebrow. “What was what?”
Blaine clears his throat. “In the kitchen. What was that?”
Sebastian smiles innocently. “Like you said, I taught you how to make an Appletini. Or, well, something close to an Appletini. What do you think it was?”
Blaine shakes his head and looks to the ground. “It certainly didn’t feel like a cocktail-lesson, Seb.”
At the sound of the nickname, something stirs inside of Sebastian, is genuinely touched by Blaine calling him that. Despite that, Sebastian refuses to acknowledge the feeling. He gets up and takes two steps closer towards Blaine.
“So?”, he mumbles only for Blaine to hear, “What did it feel like?”
Blaine exhales audibly and looks up into Sebastian’s eyes. He takes a big gulp from his drink, swallows and says: “Like… more.”
Sebastian leans in a little closer, his arms resting on top of the railing, effectively trapping Blaine between his body and about 15 meters height of fall. However, somehow it feels like he’s the one already falling.
“More of what, Blaine?” His voice wraps around the name like velvet and he comes even a little closer. Blaine’s ragged breathing brushes against Sebastian’s chin and the height difference forces Blaine to look up.
“Just… more”, he whispers. It’s quiet for a few seconds, both boys just staring into each other’s eyes until Sebastian breathes: “More heat than you ever felt?” Blaine’s eyes widen.
“More passion? More desire?” With the thumb of the hand that’s not holding his glass of Scotch he brushes over Blaine’s lips. “More like your body is tingling in all the right places? More chemistry, so much that it would only take one spark to light your skin on fire? More of what, Blaine?”
Blaine’s eyes are wide and his mouth parted, twitching like it’s trying to form a sentence but all that escapes him is a gasp: “Yes.”
There’s a ringing in his ears even though silence follows Blaine’s confession. He can feel his heart thumb in his ribcage. Da-dum. Da-dum. Da-dum. Then it’s like a flood gate has opened and words spill out of Blaine’s mouth in a hurried whisper.
“Yes, all of the above and more. You are so utterly, devastatingly pretty that it takes all of me to not touch your face all the time to make sure you’re even a real person. And then you smile that smile like half of the world belongs to you and the other half amuses you and I want to sigh with how pretty that is. You make me laugh and you make me feel seen and, Gosh, I’ve never felt wanted so much, sometimes it makes me dizzy. And no matter how often I tell you to stop, you keep confusing me with all those compliments and the innuendos and double meanings – and I kind of don’t want them to end at all because they make me feel pretty.”
He reaches up and cups Sebastian’s cheek.
“You are so frustrating, and I hate how much I don’t hate that I think about you, every fucking day, and I hate even more what I think about you, every fucking day. You drive me nuts and I hate it and I love it and it’s confusing because I shouldn’t feel this way. I shouldn’t think about you the way I do. I shouldn’t. But you’re so pretty and you’re so good to me and you make me feel so good. You offer everything on a silver platter that there’s this itch inside of me to just take it.”
Blaine’s voice grows deeper and more urgent with every sentence.
“And it’s so hard, Seb, it’s so unfair because I can’t.” He almost whines the last word, like it physically pains him. “I can’t but I want to but I can’t.”
He pants and lets go of Sebastian’s face. “So, yes, Sebastian, I feel more. More heat, more passion, more desire, more electricity, more chemistry. And I don’t know what to do with that because I shouldn’t.”
Sebastian is silent for a while, his brain slowly processing Blaine’s outburst. His eyes narrow and he whispers one sentence back:
“Just take it.”
Blaine’s eyes turn from frustrated to shocked. “What?”, he gasps.
“Let go, Blaine. Just let go and take it.” He crowds Blaine against the railing, their chests touching, his lips just shy of Blaine’s. “Like you said, B, I’m offering. Whatever you want, it’s yours. No strings.”
“I can’t…”
“Just once, Blaine.”
“I can’t…”
“Nobody needs to know.”
“Sebastian, I can’t…”
“You can.”
“No!”
They stare at each other for a few seconds. Ultimately, Sebastian backs off. “Fine. But you can’t just unload all of that on me and then call me the frustrating one.”
Blaine exhales visibly. “Seb, I’m not that kind of person. I’m still with Kurt and you know that. I can’t cheat, I still care about him as much as our relationship is a little strained right now with him in New York.”
Sebastian huffs and there’s tension in his jaw when he presses. “Does he make you feel the way I do, Blaine? Does he make you feel seen? Wanted? Good? Your words, not mine.”
Blaine squirms. “He’s… we’re… it’s different.”
Sebastian smiles smugly. “Yeah, just what I thought.” He goes back, sinks down on the wooden chair and takes a sip from his Scotch. “You might care about him, Blaine, but he doesn’t care about you. For him, you’re an accessory he puts on when he likes and when he’s sure it’s not out-sparkling him.”
Blaine huffs. “And for you, I would be more?”
Sebastian smirks and leans forward. “I’m not making promises. But you and me, Blaine, together we could be big. A supernova. A force. You could come back to Dalton and we would fucking rule this school.”
Blaine rolls his eyes. “I don’t need that kind of attention.”
“See, that’s where you’re wrong. You thrive on attention and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Dimming your light constantly because your Pink Princess feels threatened by that? That’s a shame.”
Sebastian gulps down the rest of his drink, puts his glass down and gets up. He comes up close to Blaine’s face again and brushes his thumb over Blaine’s cheek. His voice is smooth, warm and like he’s in awe when he says: “You’re a star, Blaine Anderson, and I knew that from the moment I saw you. I’m not afraid of that and you shouldn’t be neither. In fact, you should embrace it. It makes you special. I hope you realize that.” He takes his hand away again. “And once you do, once you take that leap of faith and once you're ready to burn bright or go up in flames together – I’ll be there. I’ll be waiting.”
He smiles. “Goodnight, Killer. I’ll text you tomorrow. Coffee at two like every Sunday?”
Blaine mouth hangs open and he nods absentmindedly. He looks after Sebastian until he steps into the darkness of the apartment’s hallway. What was supposed to be a night out with old friends, somehow turned into a dangerous game of Truth-or-Dare without spinning a bottle. Still, Blaine is not sure if Sebastian’s last words were only a truth or implying a dare for him.
Two years, and just like that, my head still takes me back.
Thought it was done, but I guess it's never really over.
Just because it's over doesn't mean it's really over
And if I think it over, maybe you'll be coming over again
And I'll have to get over you all over again.
END.
Thank you @seblaineaffairs for organizing #seblaineweek and giving us all the time to celebrate those characters we adore. <3
Il buon vino rosso. 🍷 🇮🇹
please update in vino veritas my crops are dying and the semester’s starting again and I need something to keep me sane and get me through
Okay I think I am too old to fully understand the crops comment (?) but I sense I’ve got the jist, and the sentiment is so sweet it makes me so happy! I swear I didn’t mean to be gone this long. However, I fell in love during November quite unexpectedly, and as lovely as that is, it also takes up a lot of time! But my boyfriend just started a huge project of his own so I’ll have more time back, so I promise updates are coming. To prove it, here is a one-sentence snippet to whet your appetite. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to me, and I hope your crops improve? 🌾 🌽 ❤️
“I told you to wear the white,” Eris said. “You look like the Wicked Witch Of Corporate America in all that black.”
Nesta only crossed her arms.
“I’m not going be dressed up like Battered Spouse Barbie just because you’ve decided I’m don’t come off as fragile enough. I don’t have to dress like a victim to prove I am one.”
If you need a refresher on In Vino Veritas or if you’ve never read it but want to read a Nessian origin story based around wine and banter, check out the master list HERE.
