Wednesday, September 3: Invocator, "Fire Cleanses All"
Jacob Hansen wasn’t yet a well-known producer when he revived Invocator after a lengthy hiatus, so Through the Flesh to the Soul arrived with no additional context or baggage and “Fire Cleanses All” was just precise and ripping Euro-thrash. Hansen was a good guitarist and a more than serviceable vocalist with a keen ear for craft, so the track was efficient and well executed if a bit anonymous. Because of that it wasn’t surprising that Invocator wasn’t heard from again, and that Hansen found more success working behind the scenes illustrated that while he had the chops he was better served utilizing them in support of other acts.
