The days are long; rehearsals, sound checks, concerts, back on the bus to a new city to start all over again. Dean’s tired. He sleeps whenever he can, curled up under a few blankets flat on his stomach trying to keep his left leg from dangling out of the bunk.
And like Dean, Castiel also sleeps whenever he can, that’s when he’s not making sure Dean’s eating. He sleeps during the movies they watch as a team in the front of the bus, he sleeps in the lounge curled around a book, and he sleeps splayed out in his bunk. Shirt always rucked up, unknowingly showing Dean the smooth dip of his lower back and the crest of his butt. The watercolor wings fluttering below his t-shirt, calling out to Dean like a siren song, their beauty tempts Dean’s fingers.
So, upon receiving a polite fake-knock on his curtain, Dean really doesn’t expect the goof that is whispering “Knock, knock, knock” to be Castiel standing there. He’s barely seen the guy awake outside of work or mealtimes.
“Hey man,” Dean’s voice hushed, to not disturb the others sleeping in the front of the bus.
“Hey, I saw the light, what are you watching?”
“The Untouchables,” Dean replies, pulling one of his earbuds out of his ear. The long cord is plugged into the DVD player in the ceiling of his bunk.
“Of course, buddy,” Dean smiles nervously and scoots over, “We haven’t gotten to hang out much lately. I’ve missed you.”
“Touring is more exhausting than I remember,” Castiel whispers and scoots into Dean’s bunk, a blush tinging the tips of his ears.
The bunks are big enough for two people, tightly pressed up against each other. Hesitantly, and awkwardly, Dean wraps his arm around Castiel’s shoulders and they share the space. Handing over one of the earbuds, he resumes the movie. Faces close together, sharing the space. Dean can smell the shampoo Castiel uses, it's a minty fresh fragrance that tickles Dean’s nose along with his earthy sandalwood soap that is so soothing. Castiel fills Dean’s senses and he’s quickly becoming addicted.
Dean hands over an earbud and starts the movie up again from the beginning. Dean commits himself to immersion in the story, getting caught up in repeating his favorite lines and even noticing something that he didn’t catch the last time he watched the movie. But his traitorous brain registers that Castiel watches Dean’s profile as much as he watches the movie, his gaze soft.
When the movie is over, Castiel bids Dean a quiet goodnight and rolls out of his bunk. Dean can only nod goodnight, feeling that a highly intimate moment had passed between them and he was left hanging, wanting more.
