Castiel is going into rut again, but this time he doesn't have to worry about being murdered by the mob, and he has a loving (if not a little demanding) partner...
Dean presses the box into Castiel’s hand. “Open your gift first.”
Castiel does so. It’s… a collar. Thick black leather on a gold ring. It’s simple. Gorgeous. Castiel lifts it up delicately and unfastens it. “It’s going to look beautiful on you, Dean,” he breathes.
Dean laughs. “It’s not for me, moron.” He plucks the collar from Castiel and dips his head down to kiss Castiel’s neck. “It’s for you.”
Castiel lets Dean tilt his chin up, and Dean bites down lightly on his pulse point and then brings the leather collar around Castiel’s neck. The metal ring is cool as it settles against his Adam’s apple, but the leather feels like it's exactly the same temperature as his skin. Dean secures it snugly and Castiel swallows, feeling the way the thick leather strap shifts around his throat as he does.
“Do you like it?” Dean asks, like he already knows the answer.

This fic is dedicated to the wonderful @valdelion, without whom it would not exist (and without whose birthday I probably wouldn't have been brave enough to just go ahead and start posting). Happy birthday, Val! It's been so wonderful getting to know you and becoming your friend. Thank you for your fun vibes and ideas, and for starting the event that finally made me venture into writing one of the most popular fandom tropes.
For those not in the know, this event, POLLSPN Cakes, grew out of the server for the @destielaureversebb. Val had the idea of doing bracket-style tournaments to have server members vote for their favorite AU versions of Dean and Cas. When the brackets were done, Val and the excellent @thejukeboxzero created an event where people would spin a Dean wheel and a Cas wheel of all the bracket options, then write a fic or make art for the resulting pairing.
I got librarian Cas and omega Dean on my third and final allowed spin and decided to go for it. HOWEVER, I also kind of double-dipped on my Dean, as you'll see later on in the fic, so I'm slapping myself with a sticker of shame. (Stickers also created by Juke!)

Chapter 1: Sleepless
She’s lying under the Men of Letters’ symbol near the Map table with her feet flat on the wall, staring at the ceiling. Unable to sleep; nothing seems comfortable, and I cannot figure out why. This is awful. She aches everywhere and that doesn’t make sense since her heat shouldn’t start for another three weeks. She dropped by because she was in Kansas City and Sam wanted some advice on a few spells as well as potential cases.
What the fuck am I expected to do after meeting a fucking Angel of the Lord? Castiel. It just plays on the tongue. God, why is he so hot? Could you have made a sexier angel? Who is actually an archangel (not that anyone needed to tell me or was going to but shit). How can an angel smell that good? How could I smell him so get away? Do Angels even have scents? Or is that a separate vessel, not his body? Is he really an Alpha? Or is that the possessee? How the fuck do you even sleep around him? Omega, shut up! Oh my God, brain. Just let me sleep.
She’s spent the last two hours, with all the lights dimmed and most of the lamps off, lying like this in hopes she would get tired. She has even been doing her breathing exercises, and while she is very relaxed, she can’t get her brain to shut up long enough to fucking sleep. She whines to no one.
Sliding down to the floor, she slowly gets up and lies against the brick wall, frustrated. “I could make a sleeping drought but that’d wake people because it stinks.” After another minute, she slowly stands up and glares at the kitchen. “Tea,” she mumbles to herself. “Didn’t help. Coffee?” She pauses and adds, “Didn't help either.” The idea of warm cow’s milk makes her nauseated. “Ew.”
She gets to the fridge and methodically notes what is inside it. There isn’t much of anything that would help. She isn’t even hungry.
Meanwhile, her mind starts thinking about Castiel and wonders if Angels can experience sex, let alone enjoy it.
Closing the door, she turns around, her eyes flash gold at the sight before her, and she yelps at finding the angel a foot from her.
“You’re very loud,” groused the Alpha Angel.
She frowned. “I’m sorry. I thought I was quiet.” Her Omega whines, feeling her cheeks warm at the embarrassment of waking the angel.
“Is there something I can help you with?” Castiel inquired.
“Me?” She was shocked at the offer but shook her head. “No, I’m gonna go lie down. Thank—“
He smirks. “I’ll join you.”
Her brain blue screens at his words. “What?”
He tilts his head, squints his beautifully blue eyes. “I’m not doing this right,” he observes. He suddenly pins her to the fridge, her wrists in his warm hands. The contrast in temperature caused a shiver to run down her back. His chest presses against hers and he has a knee between her legs, pushing into her groin. Her flushed face darkens. She opens her mouth then closes it as nothing comes out. Her throat feels tight and her heart pounding in her chest.
