Home made Ionic Thruster. While Ionic thrust is mostly used / tested in space related applications, lets talk about the practical uses.. Iron-Man suits!! Really the only way to make IRL Jetpacks that last more than 5 min and not be super heavy with fuel, or awkward fans, is making an Ionic Thrust suit. Would not need fuel like classic jetpacks and would use electricity like Modern Electric Fan jetpacks, but could hypothetically be even lighter due to not using heavy fans and all their moving parts. Would still need to make the suit safe for the wearer, and protect the thruster from damage, but with the moving parts of a fan jetpack potentially removed you're getting the weight down even more. until we reach Tony Starks level of Making a Muon Particle Beam Repulser, an Ion Thruster is currently the next step.
