192.168.178.1 - This is how the router login works
Have you just bought a new WLAN router? Or do you want to make various settings on your existing router? No problem, because nowadays all routers can be conveniently managed independently. You don't need any software to do this, but can make the settings in a browser of your choice.
You can find out how to call up the router menu (tip: with the IP address 192.168.178.1) and which requirements have to be met in our guide.
Call up the user interface in 3 steps
Open a web browser of your choice. It doesn't matter if you use Chrome, Firefox, Opera or the good old Internet Explorer.
In the address bar, type the string "192.168.178.1". Make sure that you do not mix up any numbers or make any other typing errors.
Now the login screen of the router menu should open, where you only have to enter your user name and password.
Now you should have access to the router menu and can make the settings you want.
Which routers can be accessed with the IP address 192.168.178.1? Most manufacturers of wireless routers now use their own fixed IP addresses to access the router menu. In the case of 192.168.178.1, the IP address is primarily used for AVM's FritzBox. It doesn't matter if you use the newest model FRITZ!Box 7590 or an older model like FRITZ!Box 3490. With all models, you can access the router menu with this IP address. Alternatively, the Fritzbox login also works via "fritz.box" (without quotation marks) or with the emergency IP 169.254.1.1.
Which password can I use to log in?
If you have successfully opened the router menu in the browser, you often have to enter a password to get access to the router. This default password is often "0000", but not so with the FRITZ!Box from AVM. Here you can find the password to use on the sticker on the bottom of the WLAN router.
You should change this default password as soon as possible to increase the WLAN security. At the same time, you should also change the SSID and the WLAN password.
Common typos
Most of the time, access to the router does not work because of a typing error. Please make sure that you have entered the IP address 192.168.178.1 correctly in your browser. Most often, access to the router interface does not work because
192.168.l78.1
is typed in (i.e. the letter L instead of a 1). When typing the IP address, only numbers are allowed, neither letters nor special characters like pipe symbols (|) are allowed. So you have to enter four blocks of numbers, each separated by a dot. But even with the following wrong spellings the access to the router will not work:
