Im a different anon but i asked my dad to buy me the 5s and he did. I just had to pay $100 which i had from my birthday. My dad does buy me alot of things because i dont have the money myself. Im 17 but i dont have a job because noone will hire me and i do want stuff so as long as i do good in school my parents will buy me stuff
Thats totallly cool, like I said before just because you don’t pay for it yourself with your own money doesn’t mean you didn’t work for it, you worked hard to keep your marks up, although in your case you did pay some of it yourself :) I just think people should truly appreciate what they have, that’s all.
I am not that anon, but I am in the same situation, I asked my dad and he bought me one after getting all a's. But often, others seem to think because my dad bought it for me, I see a dollar as any less. I work for things I own. All kids who ask for stuff aren't 'ignorant'. And by the way, talking smartly about a subject you don't know about doesn't make you any smarter. Step off the high pedestal. Just because my dad buys me my phone doesn't make me any lesser of a person than you.
First off I agree with you, just because someone asks for things doesn’t necessarily make them ignorant. Secondly, I don’t/haven’t thought of anyone as being “less of a person” than I am, simply because their parents buy them stuff…? My parents buy me things too… Just because you don’t take it out of your own pocket doesn’t always mean you didn’t work for it. You said he bought it for you because you got all A’s in school, that takes hard work and studying. However the previous anon said that she asked her dad for an iphone and he got her one a week later and that she had never heard of someone my age(17) doing that, saving up and buying their own things. My initial thought and opinion is that she didn’t need to work for it, whether that be working a part-time job or working hard for good marks in school or even helping around the house, etc. All she did was ask, and she received, and to me, that can sometimes make it difficult for one to understand the value of things and truly appreciate the things they have. But that may not be her case, perhaps I was too quick to judge, maybe she did work hard for her marks or earn it in some other way within that time span of a week, I don’t know, she never mentioned anything about that. All I know is that I believe one should earn what they desire so they can truly appreciate what they have.
Also it may not make me any “smarter” but it doesn’t hurt to speak fluently.
I may come off as ignorant because of the things I have and where I live but I do know that the things I have are expensive. When I was in the 7th grade, all the kids were stuck up, spoiled, and flaunted their money. (I hated it there). My father taught me that acting like that won't make me any better and I move schools. I thank my father and mother because they have worked so hard to get where they are. My family gives to those who need it most and I'm grateful that my family isn't selfish.
As long as one acknowledges and truly appreciates all they are given, they’re good in my books. Especially now during the holidays because there are millions of people out there without even a roof over their head or food and water. So bottom line, be grateful and appreciate all you are given :)
I'm not saying I'm "lucky" that my dad bought me my iPhone because I asked, I'm saying that I'm grateful my dad bought it. Yes he did buy it, but I'm only 14 and I've been taught to study, not work. The only reason I was surprised that you had to pay for your iPhone was because I've never heard of someone your age doing that. All the kids in my neighborhood just ask. I didn't mean for it to come out like that. And I'm not white by the way, I'm Mexican, German, Italian, and Spanian.
Well in my opinion you are both fortunate and unfortunate. Fortunate, because you live in a neighbourhood and atmosphere in which money isn’t much of a concern for you. You are luck to be able to enjoy extra luxuries of life by simply asking for them. However, I’d also say you are unfortunate, because you don’t know the value of a dollar, and you lack work ethic, the idea of working hard to earn what you desire. Many would call you ignorant and/or naive, and ignorance isn’t seen as an endearing quality to most.
it's really unfortunate to hear that kind of stuff now a days. I'm 22 and I had to, and still do work hard to purchase my own things. I don't know if I'd consider them lucky to have such 'giving' parents, or something else because some of their parents can't teach their children the value of a dollar.
This exactly. I’d much rather have to work myself for what I have than be ignorant and lucky
You had to save up your own money to buy your iPhone?!!??!!? I just asked my daddy for an iPhone and he got me one a week later and it's my first phone.
That’s very kind of your Daddy to do for you but you should know that a lot of people actually work for what they have themselves. I find, being able to say I bought something myself, is a lot more self-satisfying, then saying “My daddy bought it for me.” :)
