How to make iPhone apps run full-screen on iPad with FullForce
There aren’t many iPhone apps you’d want to run on an iPad, but there may be some old favourites you’d like to keep. The problem is that old iPhone apps ( pre Retina Screens) are only 320×480, improving to 640×960 on iPhone 4 Retina and 640×1136 on iPhone 5 screens. Those apps look fairly rough when shown on an iPad 1 or 2 screen with 768×1024 resolution, and in soft focus on an iPad 3 or 4 screen with 1536×2048 resolution. If the app is being supported, then the developer may introduce a new version supporting the newer display resolutions which will at least look better.
However, for anything discontinued and no longer supported, you need to head to the world of jilbreaking to try to make those apps a little easier on the eye. The purpose of the FullForce jailbreak tweak used here is to try to automatically resize the iPhone app so that it works at a higher resolution. What won’t work are custom graphics and most games, but text and general app layout can see real benefits.
Install the tweak
The FullForce tweak used here is available for free. Go to Cydia, tap on Search and look for it. Then tap on Install and Confirm.
2. Double an app
It is entirely hit and miss as how well this will work, so the first thing to do is switch an app to 2x mode so you can compare them.
3. Try it out
Exit the app and go into Settings. Scroll down to FullForce and you will see a list of all the iPhone apps on the system.
4. Toggle an app
Use the slider to toggle one of the applications to on. You could try turning them all on and check them out one at a time.
5. Check it out
Now go back to the original app, making sure you closed it first. When it starts now, it will attempt to run full-screen.
6. Check everything
Go through the apps and for the ones that clearly don’t work, turn them off in the Settings. Some will simply look better using standard 2x.
