Just updated my stupid iPad and it’s asking for age verification. It’s so annoying that everything thinks it has a right to every inch of your data these days because of some bullshit Hellen Lovejoy style “won’t somebody please think of the children!” Completely ignoring the fact that kids will find a way around the restrictions and that some adults might not have the required proof of their age (apple is asking for with a credit card or picture id and I don’t have either). It’s saying that some features may not work for me anymore and there doesn’t seem to be a single thing I can do about it. And even if I did have the required proof of age I would think twice before handing it over because I don’t trust tech companies not to misuse my data and I don’t believe that they’ll get rid of it like discord claimed. I did do the discord verification but that’s because there is a massive difference between pulling faces for a dumb Ai to review and sharing ids and credit cards. The fact that this is becoming so normalised is disgusting to me. If people want children to be safer on the internet then it’s the job of their parents or guardians not big tech.
