I’m in my late 20s, I love writing and art and I’m hoping to go back into further education for my degree. I’m awful at writing bios, so I’ve been putting it off but I don’t want to be mistaken for a bot.

oh wait, but that could be so cute, like he’s a horrific scatterbrain and is Weird About Martha even though she’s one of his favorite students because she’s so brilliant he feels inadequate as her mentor… awwww and what if Donna helps him keep more organized?? That would be really cute…

I like the idea of focusing the ten’s weirdness about his relationship with Martha (mostly emotionally distancing himself seemingly at random) more around the idea of him needing someone, and Martha is EXCELLENT and brilliant but he feels extremely guilty because she’s… well, too good for him lol. Like she has a lot of fabulous stuff she could be doing and he feels like he’s holding her back, so he’s trying not to let her get too attached so she’ll be ready to leave when she’s outgrown him, but at the same time he’s absolutely desperate for her not to leave, so it just turns out. Messy.

And Donna would absolutely call that out, like dude you have to actually make a decision. Communicate.

Yes Donna would see that within about five minutes of seeing them together and waste no time in telling Ten he needs to use his words and be clear about his feelings towards Martha as he needs to stop messing Martha around with his mixed signals.

I know that I heard somewhere that ten in day of the doctor is post journey's end, but his hair looks so much more like runaway bride and it would just be incredibly funny for the queen liz storyline to happen immediately after he got rejected by donna

That’s kinda how I got a fic idea for him doing what seemed like what he really would have done after JE, which isn’t chatting up Elizabeth I and then going on a Time Lord Victorious rampage. It’s way more plausible that that he’d do an Eleven and park the TARDIS in the clouds having a very teary broodfest until UNIT gets so worried that they send Martha up on the Valiant to see why he’s parked up there and she finds he’s been sitting on the jump seat obsessively watching over Donna’s house on the monitor, too scared to move in case something happens to her and he’s not there to try and save her. There’s a lot more to it but I just think that Ten would have absolutely done something like that.

...I will defend him going on traveling and having the Time Lord Victorious breakdown, because it's important to me, lol... I think it does make sense for him to not stop in place after what happens to Donna, because on a pure survival level I think he knows that if he stops for too long at this point it'll kill him. He's just not wired to sit with that loss, not without support, and the only person who could give him that is... well Donna. And I think he figures he has a better chance of finding a way to fix her by keeping on. Although yeah, I really really think having a canon clarification that he spent some amount of time trying to think of anything to fix her would be much better

Yeah I fully believe that he would have gone all Time Lord Victorious eventually (and there will be glimpses of that in my fic) but I think he’d be just absolutely paralysed with grief and fear and he’s terrified of the mind wipe being breached under all the talk of aliens because of everything that just happened. So he’s convinced himself he needs to be there so he can try to do something, anything to save her if she suddenly starts to remember. Martha will be the one who suggests that there has to be a better way and that will lead to a plan forming in his mind that would allow him to be with her while still protecting her. He’s also devastated because he found out when he was removing all trace of him from her memories that she was in love with him and had been for a while but was utterly convinced that he’d never be able to love her as anything other than his best friend, while he was doing all he could to hide his love for her as he was trying to respect her wishes.

Yeah I think if I was gonna tackle it (not meant as a suggestion for your fic, what you have sounds great!) I would probably approach it from the angle of like, he has no idea in the universe how to fix her so if he wants any chance whatsoever of saving her if something DOES happen, he needs to keep moving. And yk. That's not the best headspace to be in when going through the Horrors, Time Lord Victorious happens, etc.

Only barely related, but I always thought TLV was just the plot in Waters of Mars, I didn't realize until someone else told me there was extended media stuff about it. I guess I can't really judge the extended media because I haven't engaged with any of it, but I am kind of... wary of it, since at base level I feel like that story should have ended with WoM. Which, the show (by virtue what was published) agrees with, since they didn't feel the need to put out more episodes of TLV. Which I kind of prefer, since I really prefer the TLV as a legitimate mental breakdown rather than... idk, an identity he actually assumes outside of the peak of it. Whatever I guess

Yeah I’ve heard a bit about him doing more TLV stuff but I haven’t read or listened to any of it either, I think if the writers wanted to explore more of Ten going TLV they should have made it either pre WoM or an alternate timeline where he didn’t stop after WoM because he’s too caught up in his grief to realise or even care about the harm he’s doing, not just have him do it when it’s not motivated by pure emotional devastation as to me that doesn’t make sense.

I ended up having a really interesting conversation with some people at the bus stop today. They were getting out of some sort of ‘clean and sober’ meeting and had starting saying how they were so bored because they didn’t have anything to do, and had to stay at home because all their old friends would pull them back. if you work in a creative field...or if you do creative hobbies like writing or drawing...you need to make friends with people who don't do those things. you need to befriend normie Steve who has never written a story in his life. and this is because when you are in a creative job or hobby and spend all your time doing that thing, surrounded by very capable people, who you inevitably compare your own progress and skills to, you forget what the baseline human skill at that thing is. and it's usually zero. normie Steve has not written a story since the 3rd grade when his teacher made him do it. he's very good at other things that are not storytelling - but if you tell normie Steve that you wrote a full 300-page book from start to finish, he will think you're some kind of savant. he does not know ANYONE else who has done this. you need this perspective. because when you're constantly on Let's Write Stories dot Com then everyone on Let's Write Stories dot Com will inevitably be like "oh of course everyone on earth has written a book or several at this point!" and you canNOT let yourself think that. that is not even close to the average human experience. you are in a bubble. do not put yourself down. do not give up.
