Now with Apple Pencil support, the sixth-generation iPad is the best midrange tablet choice for most people, but it's still less practical than Chromebooks for most schools. 🍎 #ipad #technology #apple #school #tablet #ipadsintheclassroom#padidesoft

THE OUTSIDERS-PRE-READING SELECTION AND ONLINE SCAVENGER HUNT 🖥📝🖥📝🖥📝🖥📝🖥📝🖥📝🖥📝🖥 Students complete this activity to build some background knowledge of the author S. E. Hinton and the 1960s era! They read a few different items, answer questions from the reading, go on an online scavenger hunt to find the rest, and then they take a quiz...this helps the teacher see where they are at and it's a good lead into discussions about being an outsider and connecting it to real life for them. Obviously, they LOVE this unit, so hello, fourth quarter! There is also a paper quiz and answer key to go with this activity, as well as a Smart Response Clicker quiz! I have never written a grant. As a teacher, I didn't think I would ever have to write a grant, but it has become very clear through this class at Wilkes University that there may be times that I will want to take the initiative and write a grant. For this reason, I have spoken with a colleague of mine who has written a grant before.
She wrote a grant because she wanted to get equipment for her science classroom. She gave me a multitude of resources on grant writing that could be used as help, as well as some suggestions for how to look for grants. I went through and looked at these sites, as well as researched some of my own. A lot of the grants I saw when I was looking around have online applications that walk you through the grant process, instead of needing to follow a list of rules from a website. This really makes it a lot easier (and less stressful) to those of us who haven't written grants before. Through my research, I have even found a grant that I decided I will try to get for my classroom! As my classroom has been using Ipads more often lately, and it is hard to get the cart when there is only one cart for 13 teachers, I will see if I can get a grant to be used to buy Ipads.
Technology Project- Classroom Management
As the title of this project implies, the goal is to solve the problem of my choice with a variety of different types of technology. I have been given an iPad to use for the semester, so much of my work will be through that. In addition, I plan to use other resources that are typical to today’s classroom, especially SmartBoard.
Over the course of the semester, I will be documenting a number of different points of focus that I wish to improve through this experience. One in particular will be “classroom management”. With so many different students and obstacles coming and going each year, this is typically something that is continuously changing. For that reason, it is important for me to gain as much knowledge and tactics now, so I am able to have a substantial foundation to build upon after graduation. I plan to approach this project from a number of different angles, but hope to focus mainly on students in a large group.
LearnZillion
OK, I was just introduced to this site by another teacher and so far I LOVE it. LearnZillion is a website that contains hundreds of mini lessons and quizzes on topics in Math and Language Arts that can be used for remediation and enrichment for students. Plus, each topic is aligned with Common Core and can be looked up by the particular standard you are trying to teach/reteach. It's great!
Set-up is very simple as well. Teachers (or parents) can create a free account and send students an enrollment code. Once students have enrolled, teachers can assign Playlists and Quizzes to the class as a whole or to individual students. "Playlists" are the actual lessons (about 5 minutes long) that teach students and give examples of the specified skill. The quizzes are only 5 questions long and the grade is then sent to the teacher.
If you are a teacher, then you know the huge emphasis of technology and differentiation in the classroom. This site will definitely help you accomplish both! I see myself using this site as a homework aid and for enrichment for my higher students. Don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself: LearnZillion.
Also, have a look at this video (scroll down to the bottom) that shows the program in action in a 5th grade classroom: LearnZillion in Action.
*Note: Currently, LearnZillion only has Playlists and Quizzes for Grades 3-8.
