Apologies if this is the millionth ask but sometimes vertigo is caused by your inner ear fluid and particles being in the wrong place. The Epley maneuver can help everything back into the place it belongs.
You're not the millionth, but I have had a few comments about it! Epley was my first thought too because years ago I had the same thing happen -- I got the flu, and congestion in my ears caused my canaliths to misalign. It bolted out of the blue like a week after I was back on my feet, and I didn't know what was happening and ended up at the ER, where the doctor taught me the Epley maneuver (well, it's a longer story than that, but that's the gist).
Unfortunately it was also the first thing Hodag's physical therapists tried when it started, and they've seen a doctor since who also tried it, to no result. They've ruled out a number of issues it could be -- I'm not really comfortable sharing more specifics than I have -- and that includes anything Epley would treat. Hopefully we're getting closer to a diagnosis, but we're just worried it's a diagnosis that won't come with a good treatment option.
They want to be going out and doing things with me when I'm visiting, and we do, to an extent, but they get bummed out at how tired they get and how fast it happens, and we're also somewhat limited by their hostile relationship with stairs :D But at least their medical team seems committed, not least because they're intrigued by the mystery.
