So I did this

specifically I changed out the front and back plates, the click wheel, and I replaced the harddrive with an iFlash converter that uses four 6 GB micro SD cards so it has 256 GB of storage now instead of the 30 it had with its original hardrive. I also replaced the spent battery with a 2000 mah battery so it should have massive battery life compared to what it had brand new

I already formatted it and confirmed that itunes recognized it as a 5th gen ipod and that it actually has 256 GBs of storage, and I'm loading it up right now to test the rest of it but I'm really happy with my first attempt at this

Trans YA fiction (that I’m entirely too old for but fight me) on a restored iPod with high end IEMs is SOME sort of vibe.

Fun fact: Audible works on a 15 year old iPod, with a bit of tinkering.
