Advice to freshmen
This is kind of a text version to a video I made a couple weeks ago!
1. Arrive a bit early to school (and each of your classes). Arriving early allows you to find your classes and possible shortcuts to each class, and getting to your classes early = choosing your preferred seat.
2. Get binders with clear panels. Using binders with clear panels at the front allows you to make copies of your timetable, slip them inside and refer to them before your next class.
3. Don’t be afraid of upperclassmen! They’re humans like you, and won’t mind making new friends or helping you out ^-^. As long as you treat them respectfully, they’ll do the same!
4. Join a club. Hopefully your school has something that you’re interested in, and from there you can find potential friends and new interests. In addition, if you continue on in that club/team throughout high school, you can even end up gaining a potential reference from the teacher that runs it, which is helpful for job and university applications.
5. Know your limit. If you’re starting to feel physically/mentally drained constantly, maybe you need to take a look at what you need to cut back on. Maybe you’re in too many clubs, or you can’t keep up with the material in one of your classes (or you’re procrastinating too much, rip). Whatever it is, make sure you find out what the problem is so you can fix it.
6. I implore you, try not to stop in the halls. Or take up the whole hallway with your group of friends. Or stop in the middle of the hall with your group of friends. The student body thanks you.
7. While marks are important, health should be your top priority. The ranking should be: mental and physical health, marks, extracurriculars. Why? Because if the first ones suffer, so do the rest.
8. You will probably lose friends. Don’t worry, sometimes it’s for the better. Whether you lose them through conflict or you just stop talking, that may help you realize that maybe they weren’t the best person to hang around. High school has a bigger pool of people, and you’re bound to find someone through a class or club.
9. Try to make a good first impression on everyone you meet. People will remember their first encounters with you, whether you like it or not. Think about the people you don’t personally know, but have heard about. Word travels.
10. Try to stay on top of things. Practice what you learned in class by doing your homework! Get a planner and write deadlines/appointments down!
Hope this helped all of you guys! I wish you all the best for your first year ^-^
Plant inspired theme for my linguistics notes 🍃 I changed up my note taking style this year: the Cornell notes method, grid paper and using a notebook instead of loose leaf. I'll see how it goes Also: that plant is my mom's; she's a better plant mother than I ever will be lol
I don’t have classes everyday, so this is just a look into what my 4 day “weekends” consist of!
I’m testing out this website called OneClass, where you upload notes to earn credits. Once you earn enough, you can exchange those credits for gift cards and stuff, so I was like: I have nothing to lose?? Even if I don’t get a lot, it’s more than nothing, and I’m forcing myself to review my notes! If you use(d) OneClass, let me know what your experience is/was with it!
