The Weaver & The Unraveler
Someone on TvTropes put the image in my head of Ascendent gods actually watching Dares of Eternity as a legit game show after extrapolating Xur's line about Taken enemies being gathered from the studio audience, and now I must share the image in my head of Ir Anuk and Ir Halak going "Dad, hurry, Crota made it to the final round!" after the commercial break ends.
I know i’ve barely posted for like a year but have a meme uwu
source aka one of my fave vines of all time
(consider Aloy with her spearpoint at Sylens' throat, and she isn't sure whether to kiss him or make him bleed. the answer comes from the weakness in her own knees, though, so she sinks down and they kiss with all the fury and relief they felt after sunfall, and she barely notices his fingers on hers, loosing her grip on the spear.)
Aloy feels ashamed that it took her so long to notice how slack is her grip on the spear. Ashamed that she might have been the only one lost in the moment. But she has trained for years with someone she always knew was the best. So her instinct is to fight back as fast and as hard as she can.
She pulls back from the kiss, enough to be able to look Sylens in the eye, and is pleased to see how he widens them by a fraction, a look that for him is akin to bafflement. Aloy bares her teeth, and slams her head as hard as she can on Sylens face. She hears his nose crack. She feels his blood on her forehead. And she grabs back the spear, when he lets go of it.
There is a rumbling sound coming from the far corner, and coupled with the oscillating red light, she knows it’s HADES. Laughing at them. Mere humans driven by their base instincts. Coming after Sylens was a mistake. She could have comfortably lived in Meridian for all her life, but she wanted closure.
Sylens surprised her with the whole lamp thing. Not because she thought he was above such things. But because she knew him to be smart, too smart for him own good. And she hoped he would also be smart enough not to make the same mistakes all over again.
She knows she can’t keep on holding up the spear for much longer, and she at least is smart enough not to repeat her mistakes. So she stakes her spear on the floor right next to his head, and tries not to get distracted by how good he looks with blood all over his face. No one should look good after having their face bashed in.
Sylens is, well, silent during all this. He doesn’t clutch his nose. He doesn’t wince in pain. He doesn’t take his eyes off her. She is firmly sitting on his stomach, so she knows it shouldn’t be so easy for him to breath. But he does nothing. He only stares. When he actually moves, it’s not in a way she predicted he would. he reaches for her face, slowly, probably waiting for her to punch his for something. She won’t lie, she is tempted to jump pummel him down and walk away. But she is plagued by the same vice that plagues him. Curiosity. So she allows him to touch her.
His hands are cold. And they touch her face as if they have all the right to. Long fingers touch the blood smeared on her face. His blood. She snarls down at him, and that gets her a reaction. Sylens huffs at her before sitting up and taking her off her balance. Her arms wrap around his neck on an instinct she didn’t know she had, which puts them face to face again. Their mouths are close, but she refuses to be the one who initiates anything this time.
Their mouths are close enough for her to almost taste him again. Her heart is beating wildly on her chest. Her breath is short. And so are his. No matter how impassive he plays as, this is affecting him as much as her. Sylens tip up her chin. The blood on his face doesn’t even matter to them.
The faint red light on the corner flares up like a flame, and a loud noise fills up their little corner of the world. HADES decided on that moment to act up. They both look at the little lamp that overlooked them, and then back at each other. Whatever that was, it was gone. All thanks to HADES. Like usual.
