It's a really interesting feeling watching The Ghost in the Shell 2026 as someone whose first impressions of the franchise were made by both the 1995 movie and S.A.C., and I mean that in a good way. Seeing new sides to characters I mostly recognized as more straight laced detective/police/soldier types, without actually taking away parts of those particular portrayals, is quite entertaining, highlights include:

The Major getting roasted by the rest of the boys over her love life because she forgot to hide her metaphorical porn stash

Batou being a total goober

Aramaki being 120% done with everyone's shit

Togusa being the baby of the bunch and also a total shit

Never read the original manga but I'm looking forward to the journey Science Saru has prepared for us.
