I have been thinking about the skk prompt you sent me for a week now
The "Why is there glitter everywhere? What did you do?"
I didn't find the right words to write it, but if you want, here's the outline of what I had thought about:
After storm bringer, Chuuya is. Um. Obviously going through the horrors and it's booooring to Dazai if he keeps moping
So. Dazai remembers that one time Mori sent them to retrieve a stolen shipment from Hokkaido during snow festival season. And Dazai remembers Chuuya's genuine wonder and the light in his eyes when he stared at the falling snow and at the ice statues and the general winter cheer.
But. Slight issue: it doesn't really snow in Yokohama, and if it does, it doesn't stick around.
So, as a "Christmas present" (to himself, mostly), Dazai arranges for Chuuya to be gone for a few days so he can rig up an elaborate sprinkler system where as soon as Chuuya opens the door when he comes back, it starts showering his whole flat in glitter.
(Glitter because it's gonna be a bitch to get out of Chuuya's designer clothes, and it wouldn't be a good prank if it didn't infuriate Chuuya. And this is a prank, still. Right? Right.)
So, anyways, fast forward to Chuuya coming back from his mission and he's so tired and he just wants a glass of wine to unwind.
And for the first three seconds, while he stands frozen in his own doorway, Dazai does see that same kind of wonder in Chuuya's eyes as back in Hokkaido. And then, as predicted, the fury kicks in, and everything is back to normal.
However, in the ensuing snowball glitterball fight - where Chuuya definitely has an unfair advantage due to his gravity manipulation powers - Dazai does hear Chuuya laugh and curse and just. Be his usual vibrant, human self so maybe he doesn't mind as much that his own broody image is slightly ruined by the glitter he leaves in his trail for a week.
(Both of them do, actually.)
Chuuya manages to throw out most of the glitter, but - and he can never let Dazai know about this - keeps a tiny amount safe in a little custom snow globe. The snow globe has a little mackerel inside, and Chuuya shakes it violently to make himself feel better.
(Which it does. And it has nothing to do with the memories of a prank whatsoever.)
oh... oh........ 🥺. that's so sweet. thank you for sharing...!
i like that part of this is just dazai wanting to mess around, wanting to create some situation where something, anything happens (chuuya moping is boring!) (he won't even get mad!) (..he's doing this for no other reason than to bother chuuya.... surely.), it's so teenage dazai, creating schemes just to feel interested in the world. amazing that he chose glitter, he truly had a vision. chuuya's designer clothes is one of my favourite of his teenage quirks too, he got a salary and he's LIVING.
i'm imagining a small sparkly chuuya in his fancy clothes frozen in place. then him leaving glitter everywhere. he's like nyan cat. pinching his cheeks. love him.
dazai's secret caring that he can't express in any normal way is sooooo.... 🥺. his little plan to cheer chuuya up for the holidays! he misses his friend*. aw 🥺.
chuuya even got a stress toy out of it... a little festive glittery mackerel fish that doesn't remind him or anything at all. he's torturing dazai in that snow(glitter)globe he swears. absolutely.
that's so cute... thank youuu. and merry christmas to you! 🎄🎄🎄

Tonight's interview question: who fell first and who fell harder - AkAm edition (in general or in a specific AU you find interesting) 🎤
hello iris! thank you for the question.
my kneejerk reaction is really to say akai is one of the most straightforward Lovers i've met in fiction of late. he puts his heart out there like it isn't a big deal at all (see: akemi, see: revealing his identity to scotch, see: akam). but akam is truly some sort of "two can play at that game" ship to me, and in the akam narrative in my heart of hearts rei fell first & he fell harder too...
i really am a tragedy enjoyer and the rooftop tragedy is so beautifully formed to me and i absolutely love the idea of rei having been just a millimeter's breadth too far in love with rye, to have let himself and slices of his grief be known in moments to him, only to be hit with the triple hole-punch of
1. akai kills scotch (or fails to prevent his death, or lies barefaced to rei)
2. akai's identity is blown (so scotch didn't have to die, and what they had between them is much closer to rei's real life than he'd ever let himself have)
3. akai dies. (heartbreak, grief, abandonment issues x100000, the death itself so unreconcilable that rei becomes him)
the betrayal! and rei's grief at himself too, for ever trusting and even loving him...! it must be the greatest mistake rei's ever made in his mind! it's wonderful. i also think rei is firstmost lonely and secondly repressed, but bourbon isn't that, and going undercover was a way for him to think—it doesn't matter, i can have this right now, because it won't follow me to the light—but his separation of selves is not as clean as he thinks... ^^.
as for falling harder it really is about the grief, and rei's eventual forgiveness of akai, which is perhaps The Greatest Act of Love imaginable to me. that rei can go home and kiss him and rest his head on his shoulder, with all of the wounds in his heart, knowing that's the same hand that failed to save hiro... he must love akai more than love itself.....
and finally it's just that i think love comes easily to akai (see the first paragraph) and with great insurmountable difficulty to rei. of course this isn't a quantifier of "falling harder," but to me akai never second-guessed loving rei, while rei tried to rewrite the laws of particle physics to get out of loving akai, and still ended up there.
