Five facts about Iris Pangbourne:

The inspiration for Iris came from talking with DarkSideofParis over what it would be like if instead of the snooty and unlikable Joan Redfern, the matron at Farringham school was someone who was the polar opposite of Redfern; i.e., treated Martha with kindness and respect, was willing to give the Doctor the benefit of the doubt and be willing to broaden their horizons and become a TARDIS companion. From these talks, Iris was born.

Iris' face claim is Kate Winslet as she appeared as Rose Dewitt Bukater in Titanic; 22-years-old and with red hair, though unlike Rose, Iris retains Kate's natural Berkshire accent. In fact, two of Iris' outfits were based on outfits Rose wore in Titanic; the blue velvet dress Iris wears to the village dance in Human Nature is based on Rose's "Flying" dress and the pink chiffon dress and coat she wears during her trip to Callufrax Minor in Early Travels is based on Rose's "Sinking" dress and coat.

At 22-years-old, Iris is rather young to hold the position of matron, however this is explained in Human Nature by her explaining to John that she first came to the school as an assistant to Joan Redfern and became matron after Redfern decided to retire after surviving the sinking of the Titanic. Presumably, Iris was initially temporary matron but the position was made permanent in due course due to her skills as a healer.

For all of her kind, compassionate, butter wouldn't melt demeanour, Iris does have a fiery side that rears itself when someone has annoyed her enough or has hurt her friends. For example, when we first see her in Human Nature, she gives Hutchinson a well-deserved clip round the ear after she catches him being racist to Martha and forces him to apologise to her. She also gave the Master a well-deserved punch to the face in Last of the Time Lords as punishment for all the pain and suffering he caused during The Year That Never Was.

Iris has met the most incarnations of the Doctor out of all my OCs. She's a companion of the 10th Doctor during her main story and in two of my one-shots and she also met the 5th Doctor during Time Crash, while in my AU adaptation of The Five Doctors, she's a companion of the 5th Doctor and meets the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Doctors during the course of that story, so in total she has met five different incarnations of the Doctor overall.
