My Thoughts:

IRIS, by Lewis Le Val, is both an effect AND a reading system.. that permits you to know the secret thoughts of you spectator/client. I have NO problem with the ad copy.. and consider it very accurate describing IRIS..

The system uses two IRIS cards, which contain all the info for the reading. Nothing is printed on the cards to give away the secret. You can determine the spectator's star sign in a very inconspicuous way, one that doesn't create suspicion, and you can know very personal information about the spectator.. information you shouldn't otherwise know.

The IRIS cards are approx. the same size as a business card, and will fit easily in your wallet or shirt pocket. The spectator will casually read the cards and, in one instance, you will know WHAT the spectator is reading by what is printed on the BACK of the card. The spectator has no idea they are giving away the secret while trying to keep it secret.

In all fairness, a small bit of equivoque is used to gain the spectator's star sign. The cards tell you, within 3, the sign.. and a simple equivoque is used for the final reveal. You can ask either one or two questions.. and know the sign.

During the second half of the reading, the spectator focuses on one area of their life that most interest them. One side of one card contains a list of twelve words; travel, education, strength, spirituality etc... and the spectator now focuses on one specific word. Lewis has assigned each area a number, and you can remember both the word and the number using a simple mnemonic frequently used in mentalism.

Using almost no mathematics, other than simple addition like 1+2+8, you will know the specific area of interest of the spectator by gazing into their iris.. or so they will believe. Knowing their field of interest in secret, you are prepared to offer a 'reading' before you reveal their area of interest.

"You are a student for life. You have never quit learning and consider learning almost as important to you as breathing itself. You are not totally happy with your education.. and want to study something, somewhere that will make you a better person.. both in life and the workplace."

This might be something you'd say to someone after you've secretly determined their area of interest is education.

Approximately half of the instructions are geared toward the readings themselves.. and not technique. Lewis offers very detailed teachings about both the star reveal and the area of interest. It's very possible to stick with the basic reveals until you are comfortable discussing the details of the reading.. details that will come through your experience.

Readings aren't easy, unless you're quick thinking or experienced. It's a learned processed.. and IRIS is a great tool to get you started. Keep your readings simple in the beginning.. and expand as you gain experience. You have the perfect tool to encourage you to WANT to offer readings.. quick or otherwise.. and a very good instructor to set you on the right path.

IRIS includes 1 hour and 12 minutes of video instructions. The video and sound are good, and nothing is lacking. The first several minutes of the instructions are a full reading, conducted by Lewis, and give you a good indication of what to expect, and what is possible, with IRIS. Some might think thirty dollars is a little high for two cards.. but you are buying a well-though-out system of psychic reading. No problem here...

I will recommend IRIS to any of my friends and readers with an interest in mentalism or psychic readings. I like it a LOT..

IRIS: A Review

Iris is a 2015 documentary about 93 year old fashion icon Iris Apfel, directed by Albert Maysles. 

SCRIPT

Cassidy Says:

Well since Iris is a documentary, there isn’t really a script. Consequently my judgment hinges upon the organization and how the documentarians handled the subject matter. And so while Iris was certainly an interesting watch, the documentary itself isn’t particularly well constructed. There’s no through line save Iris herself, thereby creating this sort of montage that jumps from subject to subject without a clear structure. The specifics they chose to focus on were interesting enough, but the selection did little in the way of telling a concrete story or painting an in depth picture of an obviously complex and interesting woman. I feel like it was a good introduction to Iris Apfel as a person, but I got the impression that there was so much more to her and her story that the documentary just breezed over because it was busy wandering aimlessly around her sassy, colorful world.

The content of this film is good, but by no fault of the director or film crew. This film had the luck of being focused on a very interesting, mildly entertaining woman. However, this wasn’t enough to overshadow the blatant directionlessness of the film. It seemed that everyone wanted to do this film, but nobody knew what they wanted to do in it; it was hard to decipher what exactly was trying to be accomplished. It was almost a day-in-the-life, but it appeared as if they wanted to say something that was never said. Multiple times throughout the film they would begin to focus on a specific part of Iris’ life and I thought they were finally getting to the point, but I was mislead every time.

Eh. Since it’s a documentary my problems with the script are really just problems with the documentarian, and I’m not wild about the direction. I think Albert Maysles did a fine job collecting footage of fun, eclectic moments that sort of amount to a day in the life of Iris Apfel, but that’s kind of all he did.

I won’t spend too long on the direction, considering the problems in the content were mostly rooted in a lack of direction. I will say that, despite the problems in this film, Albert’s career should be celebrated; he had a fruitful life in film and that is something to be very proud of. It was also clear that he was good friends with Iris and this was a very charming honor for them both.

ACTING

Cassidy Says: 

No acting, just Iris, but boy did she put on a one woman show. A quick witted, no nonsense, 93 year old fashion guru with what I swear had to be ten pounds of jewelry on her arms alone, living and working with the energy of someone at least twenty years her junior. Unless you have a pointed interest in fashion, she is the one and only drawing factor of the piece, and even then I think you have to at least vaguely appreciate clothing as an art form or her personality alone won’t be enough to sustain your interest. But if you’re up for what is essentially an hour and a half long fashion show, Iris affords you the opportunity to meet a dynamo of a woman, beginning to show the pensive, quietude of her age while still sporting her outlandish, iconic, one of a kind look (with a persona to match.)

The people were easily the best part of this film, Iris and her husband are fun and the impact they’ve had on people is clear. Everyone used in the film seemed to have relevance to Iris or her career. Entertaining dialogue and watching Iris in her regular activities was an amusing experience. This was probably the only reason I was still engaged by the end of the film.

COSTUME/ART DIRECTION

Cassidy Says: 

Since the visuals of a documentary aren’t completely under the creator’s artistic control, I am willing to be a little forgiving here. But at the same time I feel like I’ve seen documentaries that were visually striking not for their content alone but because of their composition, and Iris wasn’t one of them. Was it visually striking? Oh of course, it was this gorgeous cornucopia of colors and patterns with this prevailing zany vibe holding the whole thing together. But that had nothing to do with the costuming or art direction, it’s because the thing is about a notoriously vibrant fashion icon who previously worked as an interior designer. So of course it’s going to be a feast for the eyes. In fact, if you’re into fashion the art might even top Iris herself. But Iris the person gets all the credit, not Iris the film.

Again, this film was extremely lucky in this field. Naturally, Iris’ life is filled with art and very engaging aesthetics. This makes it very hard to judge the art direction thoroughly, but nonetheless they did take advantage of the great surroundings given to them.

CINEMATOGRAPHY/EDITING

Cassidy Says:  

From the very first frame I thought the cinematography was kind of bad. I mean yeah it’s a documentary and you can’t always control how people are moving or whatever but still, the framing never struck me as particularly well done, the general clarity and quality of the visuals wasn’t always great, and sometimes the camera work was too shaky and it was distracting. Like, okay sure let’s follow her through five hallways of her house, but do you literally just have to walk behind her holding the camera through five hallways of her house? That’s boring, and it looked like I could have done it, which is never a good sign tbh. The one technical thing I’ll give it is there were one or two times where jaunty music was incorporated and I thought it was a nice touch.

Painfully mediocre. It used extremely generic documentary footage, but to the point that you could predict what you would see next shot for shot. Too many times irrelevant shots were used because they looked “artsy” which was obnoxious and time-wasting. This may have been a result of the lack of direction or purpose through the film. Perhaps if they were attempting to get a specific point across to the audience more relevant camerawork would have been used.

THE “IT FACTOR”

Cassidy Says: 

Eh. Just… eh. It was definitely worth watching because Iris Apfel is a hella interesting old gal, and I myself like fashion quite a bit so I had no problem sitting through an hour and a half long clunky costume jewelry montage. But outside of its subject matter it wasn’t anything special. Worth a watch but not really anything to write home to the family about.

The “It Factor” of this film has nothing to do with the production itself, simply Iris. If you like Iris, not necessarily her work, but her as a person than it is worth a one-time watch. Iris’ charm is the entirety of the watchability in this film and (even with little knowledge of her) you can easily appreciate her as an entertaining woman who has lead an interesting life. Simply put, this is an endearing nod to Iris and, if that interests you, it may be worth the time, but don’t spend too much money on it.

The next give away is the fact that most of the viruses will be on the list of the files that start at the boot of the Mac. This means that when you look at the list if the programs that should start at the boot of the computer, you will see some programs that you have no idea what they are. This is a giveaway and you have to go online right away to make sure that this is not a virus and if it is then you need to delete or shred it.

The final characteristic is that when you delete the file that you have no idea as to what it is, you find it somewhere else. This is a dead give a way that this is a virus and you have to do what you have to do in order to get rid of it.

Thoughts about IRIS!

Actually, I was a bit disappointed about Iris. :( My expectations from the drama was really high because I've heard a lot of praises and to think that Iris was the most expensive drama that ever produced in Korea. But... no! It didn't met the expectations I was looking for in a drama like this. :(

Yeah, the locations, props, effects was great; but the storyline... I was a bit disappointed with it. Also with the cast. :| 

First disappointment: I HATE THE LOVE STORY PART. WHY? Because Kim Tae Hee's character was kinda overrated for me! Duuuh! Why can't she be over Hyun Jun?! I really those kinds of character that's why I like Sun Hwa more to end up with Hyun Jun! And Seung Hee to end up with Sa Woo. 

Second disappointment: I EASILY GUESSED WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT. No thrill for me. I easily guessed who were the good-turn-bad people in the drama. There was no shocking revelation for me throughout the drama which made me more disappointed to think that it is expected from this kind of plots. 

Third disappointment: THE DRAMA ISN'T FOCUSED ON IRIS. The drama was merely somehow an introduction of the secret organization IRIS! Half of the drama was just about Hyun Jun's way to Korea. Although this drama will have a sequel, still. They should've focused more on IRIS. :|

Fourth disappointment: T.O.P WHERE ART THOU? T.O.P was supposed to be one of the main character and to spice the twist up but WHERE ARE YOU T.O.P?! It's like T.O.P was only there to assassinate someone and he's gone again. There was no twist regarding him or created by him. And he was a top assassin! And he will just die like that? He didn't even fight back when Hyun Jun was beating him! Damn that.

Hayy! But then, Lee Hyun Bin's acting was really really spectacular! 2 thumbs up for his acting! Aaaah! I was really moved and touched by his acting! And also the other casts! The acting was really awesome but their characters sucks. :( 

THE ENDING WAS.... UGH. But I accidentally read a spoiler regarding the ending and the upcoming sequel! AT LAST THERE WAS A REAL TWIST THAT SHOCKED ME BIGTIME!What I read made me more excited about the spin-off and the upcoming sequel! I wasn't really that excited to watch the spin-off and actually thinking not to watch it anymore (Athena: Goddess of War) even though Siwon was there :-"... but at last there was something that made me excite to watch Athena! Hail to KIN SUN HWA! :> She's my favortite character! Although......... nevermind. :)) Spoileeeerrrsss! :)))) 

If you want to watch it.. then go! But this wasn't the drama I will recommend for people to watch. Not unless if you are really a fan of action scenes! [Btw, action scenes here are great! Just like Hollywood action movies!] :)) I'll rate this one 3.5/5. Plus .5 for T.O.P's hotness and Kim So Yeon's heroine chick power! :D
