Full Name: Iris Dougherty. Named for her Grandmother's favourite flower.
Childhood: Fairly average. Born on the outskirts of Lorne, Northern Ireland, she was raised by her Mam, Rosaline Dougherty (nee MacDonald), and Da, Phillip Dougherty. She had one older brother, Andrew Dougherty, who planned to follow in their Grandfather's steps and join the Royal Airforce. Phillip was a fisherman in the bay, and Iris spent many days in the surf, roaming the rolling hills and scattered farmland with Andy, the more outgoing of the siblings.
She finished primary education and studied for two years at the Queen's University in Belfast, focusing on astrophysics. When her brother was killed in a bar fight a month after joining the SAS, her world shattered, and in her grief Iris signed up for the military herself, determined to join the SAS in her brother's memory. This infuriated her father, who wanted nothing less than his children to join the British army, having been on the side of Irish independence. "If you go an' join, don't you ever come back, Iris. The Devil won't be welcome in my home twice." Her Mam still calls and attempts to keep a relationship, but Iris does not meet her halfway, dodging calls like the church. Phillip and Rosaline's marriage is straining under the combined loss of their children, one to death and one to Phillip's pride.
In school, Iris was more focused on studying than having friends, though she got into her own fair share of trouble with her small group. They were incredibly close, even through the end of school, though the group haven't seen much of each other since Andy's passing. Siobhan and Skye still keep tabs on Iris' socials, and when she does get leave, the three of them make a point to meet up for a round or six, reminiscing late into the night. They carefully keep any comments about the current state of Iris' family tucked away, not pushing her on reconciliation. "Time passing is not an apology," Iris had explained, gaze lost in her glass, the swirling amber liquid singing in her veins. "An' I won't be where am not wanted."
