SO with that disclaimer out of the way, my reason why is bc i don’t think he’s characterized the best… from the few things i have read and seen he is portrayed as pretty mouthy towards riko & he stands up for jean/kevin, and while i think those things Can be true under specific circumstances and in certain instances… i don’t fully believe in that… when we get part of neil in the nest we see a neil who has been physically far removed from the threat of the yakuza for years, Obviously there was always the lingering mental and looming physical threat of his father, but the moriyamas weren’t really on his radar before joining the foxes, this allowed him a sort of dissonance? or like mental distance from the situation imo, which made him speak up more publicly against riko, ofc from his POV we also get his natural aggression that he tones down and eventually lets out, so that would most likely spring out a few times had he been in the nest from his “audition”, but remember, he would’ve been thrust from his father’s hands into the moriyama’s—into tetsuji’s, another abusive older male figure (which we see neil be wary of w wymack in tfc). so it’s very likely that going from his father to tetsuji wouldnt make him as “mouthy” as we see him in the triology & portrayed in raven neil media ALSO we get a quote in trk where neil says “He'd let Riko take him apart time and time again because it was the only way to survive, because bending should have kept him from breaking, but Neil didn't know if he could pull himself back together one more time. He wasn't strong enough for this. He never had been. His mother had held him up but she was gone now.” and this was AFTER the ~8 years of physical separation from the yakuza & their abuse… even when he was older and had been less physically immersed in their world he still bent to riko & tetsuji, which means at the young age of 10, with the threat of his father looming, and he’d just been there, and seeing his father murder someone in front of him (maybe not for the first time, but still horrific and a horrible display of power) he would 100% bend to riko’s and tetsuji’s wills
now i do think he may try and help jean & kevin (like kevin did for jean) But he would also prioritize his own safety (+ w the “your failures are my failures” pairing he would have w jean it would only make sense for him to help jean w that in mind (and to get in less trouble himself)), so im not totally against that idea, but i just think he wouldn’t be so forward and antagonizing to riko, especially bc he’s very aware of their power
