Cycling is really taking off in Ireland, especially those who bike into work. It's one of the main ways we can tackle congestion. The new legislation will make a big difference: https://goo.gl/X678tS

A nice Sunday morning ride in a bit of rain. Took advantage of my lovely location and covered a 15.5km journey around quiet back roads and got to see the lovely castle ruins of Carbury Castle. My fitness levels have risen dramatically, I can see and feel the difference on a long journey like this, with hilly challenges. Lovely morning. Lovely scenery. And a bit of soft Irish rain to keep me cool! Oh and I’ve passed 11 months smoke free!!! Woohoo!!!! Photos to follow…

A town and canal bike run. My cycle buddy suggested we do our usual route backwards today. It's been a good while since I've even done this route. So much fun! Only in Ireland would we wake up to snow, and by lunch time, be out riding a bike in the sunshine and not a flake of white to be seen!! The traffic wasn't too bad around town, and I think, to have more than one rider on the road helps people to actually see us bikers!! The wind was on our backs for a lot of the journey which pleased me! The canal trail was lovely, and we upped the pace today, not the usual leisure ride. I'm feeling that my fitness levels are getting better. It's a good measure to do a route I haven't done in a while, to gauge my breathing and stamina. Especially on those hills! A good rigorous ride, sunshine, good company. Life is good... 9.6km thank you Fifth month smoke free!!!

I had a few bits to do around town, so rather than walk or drive, I rode. Maybe about 4 or 5 km. but it was all movement, and of course hills. It all adds up...

I left my car in for new tyres and brought the bike to go ride for the hour. It was fresh! Some random guy asked me were my gloves any good? He was concerned that I may die of hypothermia on my ride haha. I set out to do my 14km, the one with the killer hill, as that would cover an hour. It didn't burn my chest so much today, but I did feel it in my legs! I don't normally feel it in my legs, or do I? Am I so distracted usually with my breathing that I don't notice other pains? Lol I tackled that hill with gusto, it surely will ease someday!! So I circled the roundabout, and continued on the journey back to town. The wind was in my favour today, not in my face, just not there at all. It was a lovely calm day. I returned to the garage to collect my car, and realized I had done the ride in 45 minutes! That's almost 15 minutes quicker! So that explains the burn in my legs! Which means my chest is improving as I was able to speed up a little without breathing like an old bagpipe. My skin was glowing, my lungs felt open, and clean, and of course the adrenaline and endorphins were hopping for the rest of the day! 14km, and quicker! I'll take that!
Cliffs of Moher and Dingle
On Thursday, I awoke not really bright and early, per se, but I got up in the morning at any rate, and set off for the Cliffs of Moher. The drive was mostly on the motorway, so somewhat uneventful, but as I got closer, things became more interesting (see above picture).
The Cliffs, obviously, are unbelievable. I only stayed for an hour as I had places to be, but you really need a full day to hike all along the top of them.
I thought I’d dangle my feet to demonstrate the precarious nature of the cliffs.
Here are the first of many, many cow friends. They’re so wooly. They live on the cliffs.
I like the one on the right who is walking away. He is so precious.
After the Cliffs of Moher I drove down to Dingle. The above picture is of the two-lane road I was driving on. That’s right. That’s two lanes. When another car comes along, you have to get in the bushes. It’s kind of scary.
This is a picture of some cows up on this ledge above the road. I just thought they looked really funny.
Sheep!
Precious little Dingle.
I finished up my day in Dingle, hopping from one pub to another checking out live music. My hostel was great, parking was easy, and this was a great, great day.
Speed Limits Irish style
I wonder how much people have crashed due to confusion
