 I was born in Ireland and spent a portion of my childhood growing up there. That being said I would like to talk only a little bit about Irish slavery, mistreatment and hardship. In a light of recent events where black lives matter has become viral, i've noticed many people talking about how only black people have experienced true hardship and slavery, and how nobody could possibly understand that hardship. For one, all races enslaved each other and yes that includes black people enslaving 1.5 million white people. But anyway, The Irish slave trade began when 300,000 irish prisoners were sold as slaves to the New World. Ireland quickly became the biggest source of human livestock for English merchants. The majority of the early slaves in the New World were actually white. From 1641 to 1652 over 500,000 irish were killed and another 300,000 sold as slaves. Irelands population fell from 1,500,000 to 600,000 people in ONE single decade. Irish slaves were nothing more than human cattle, and i could keep on going. We were being burnt, tortured, bred, raped, used and abused and eaten! So if anyone, black or white, believes that slavery was only an African experience, then they've got it all wrong.

It really annoys me when people say that white people cannot be oppressed, my country ( Ireland ) was oppressed and still is. We had a civil war going on for a long time that started by The British invading our lands taking rule over the country, finally leading to The Troubles, which was a bloody civil war that many lives were lost in due to people wanting to be part of their own country, but now under British rule; Catholics were slaughtered for being Catholic, arrested for being from a certain area, people were interned, shot, blown up and much more. I understand that it was people of the Caucasian race that were oppressing is but it is still happening today, white people have been oppressed, the Irish have been slaves before. I am in no way saying that they are on the same level of oppression as black people, but it does happen to white people, not all of us are oppressors. People need to stop grouping every white person as a racist oppressor and understand there has been issues for some of us too. If you want to hate anyone, hate the British empire, they started the colonies, the British empire is who invaded everyone's lands and made them slaves. Direct your hate to the oppressors and not every white person.
