Puzzle inspired by @ageblue-aka-varnah-g.

The number in each cell indicates the number of cells in the 3x3 square centered on it which share its color, including itself. The only colors that appear in the puzzle are the four shown. Fill in the white cells.

I used a font that will hopefully cooperate with the bucket tool in your favorite image editor.

I'm like 90% certain the puzzle is solvable and not contradictory but I made a lot of mistakes while making it and can't guarantee I didn't miss any while troubleshooting.

UPDATE: @ann-decart found an error, and I updated the original post with what I think should be a fixed version. (It was an ambiguity error, not a contradiction error, so any work anyone may have already done toward solving should still be valid.)

For those unfamiliar: To solve the puzzle, you must use four colors to paint all the squares on the grid. Each square has a number written in it that lists the amount of same-colored squares around it + itself, in a 3x3 centered square mini-grid.

This is a irojirai, a puzzle invented by @ageblue-aka-varnah-g

The rule is: the number is a square is the number of the squares in its 3x3 neighborhood (including itself) that are the same color as this square. The goal is to color all squares in a way that works, using the 4 colors provided. For an example, see this post.

As a bonus activity, you can explain why the resulting picture (or isn't) an appropriate house decoration.

Solved a couple of puzzles that @vacuously-true posted and wanted to see if I could make one. Mine is easier and it still took me several tries, but I'm fairly sure I did it!

Rules are that the number in each square is how many of its 9 neighbors (including itself) are the same color as it - fill in the white squares with the four colors that are already on there.

This one is pretty hard. I haven't figured out a way to solve it without a decent amount of casework, but every time I go through it I see shortcuts I didn't see before. It's helping me develop a sense of some rules and patterns that go beyond the basic rules.

Hint to help you check your solution:

In the final pattern, each of the four color sections is connected. That is, any two cells of the same color have a path between them which is also that color.
