Page 17. ---- "Ferguson on Fishing Party, With Beer Glass as Bait" ---- Special to The Star Simcoe, Ont., Sept. 16. - The C.C.F. movement gained a strong foothold in Norfolk county last night when a large gathering welcomed C. J. Maund, assistant secretary of the federation, and Miss Lorna Cotton, Ph.D., both of Toronto.

Mr. Maund said the common necessities of the people must be socialized. The national flag of Canada to-day, he said, should be "a red bailiff's flag bearing Premier Bennett's iron heel in one corner and in the other three pawn brokers' balls, clutched by an American eagle." Mr. Maund charged that a Simcoe factory was paying employees less than a living wage and handing out huge stock dividends to a lucky few.

Miss Cotton charged that the old line parties were attempting to be- cloud the issue by introducing the beer by the glass question into politics. "Mr. Ferguson came over here on a fishing party with a beer glass as bait," she said. "If the Conservatives are returned in the next election, you people will have the empty glass and Mr. Ferguson his brewery stocks."

Prominent in the gathering were a number of men who in the past have been influential party workers, while a large percentage of those who attended were returned soldiers. Ald. Percy Carter, active Conservative worker, and for five years a member of the town council, presided as chairman.
