What does it mean when a man falls in love with a radiant face across the room? It may mean that he has some soul work to do. His soul is the issue. Instead of pursuing the woman and trying to get her alone, away from her husband, he needs to go alone himself, perhaps to a mountain cabin, for three months, write poetry, canoe down a river, and dream. That would save some woman a lot of trouble.

Iron John: A Book About Men by Robert Bly. 6.7/10

I feel many people can relate to this idea of unlocking the cage of Iron John whether they are a guy or not.

I like learning about different gods, folklore or ancient beliefs and rituals, and deeper meaning behind children’s stories.

I want to figure if this book is more feminist or anti-feminist. It creates a deep divide between women and men, but it doesn’t say one is better than the other.  Most of the issues rooted in the male could also occur in the female. Anyone can have daddy issues and to focus on the male means that male and female are not equal in some matters. Even though it focuses on boys needing to become men through men, it does hint at how women and men are both important. I guess, it’s more feminist. It separates the gender, but treats them equally.

I like how the book is fashioned by a fiction story that switches to teachings of the male psyche.

I wish they would add pictures every time they mention a specific woodcut or some other art.
