“Well,” Anna says, “You were the one who said we should get coffee, if I remember it right.”
She says it seriously, straight-faced, but a second later the corner of her mouth curves up, and Jo starts to smile, and Anna grins. “I guess you're right,” Jo says. “So you're saying it's up to me?”
Anna nods. Jo bites her lip and looks down at the table for a second.
“Why not?” she says, and raises her eyes to meet Anna's, smiling.

wait, who’s the other half? I need context
Andrew Dabb and David Loflin have always written together in the past, and they tend to write some pretty gross stuff. "Sam, Interrupted" being the most egregious example that's coming to mind right now.

NaNoWriMo Is Like Free Comics Day But Better

Oh my god I *need* this as reference for my NaNoWriMo. Thank you!
You're welcome! Your NaNoWriMo sounds very interesting, and if you'd like to send me a copy when you're done, I'd definitely read it. Of the books I linked, The Orphan Girl has the best set of fairy tales - you can basically swap out everything in Tom Thumb, Mother Holle, the Snow Maiden, Baba Yaga, Molly Whuppie, and a dozen other European fairy tales, and straight up replace them with these stories.
But if you want some cultural background and specific terms for magic and magical creatures, read African-American Alphabet and take good notes. It's got much more straight up supernatural stuff, while Orphan Girl is largely populated by talking animals. There are a ton of fascinating ways to take down monsters - peppering the skins of soucouyants, beating lagahoos with sticks soaked in oil and holy water, scratching infinity signs and stabbing them with a knife to stop duppies, outwitting mermaids, throwing the ashes of ghosts into the sea.
Have fun, and good luck doing NaNoWriMo!
