In a decaying world, it was hard to find goodness -- especially when the heart that you carry within your chest is broken and battered. Shane wore his guilt like an armor, desperate for forgiveness but too stubborn to admit that was what he sought out. After wandering on his own for months, he’d run head first into one of the largest hordes he’d come across. He knew there would be no outrunning it so his only option was to hole up in a small mom and pop grocery store in a town he hadn’t even bothered to find the name of. Pushing himself through the door, he quickly found a way to lock and support the door and then instinctively pulled his knife from his hip and began to make his rounds to clear the area. Down each individual aisle he walked, seeing no sign of anyone dead or alive until he turned down one of the last aisles.
For a moment he thought his eyes had been playing some kind of sick joke; a psychotic break meant to bring him to his downfall. He was imagining things -- a pregnant woman because of the feelings he had for Lori that never really went away. He stood with his mouth open like a statue frozen in time but her body shifted and he was brought back to reality. Brown hues stay fixated on her as he lowers his knife slightly and takes a step back.
❛ You alone? ❜ The phrase slips from between his lips quietly as he tries to scan the building for any possible locations for an ambush waiting to happen. He watched her in silence for a moment, taking in the emotions that seemed to be pouring out of every part of her. Frightened. Understandably so. And before she can answer his question, he finds himself placing his knife back in it’s place on his hip. ❛ I ain’t gonna hurt you. It’s the only place I could get to before the walkers made it to town. ❜
