Ruta del encierro, Pamplona - entzierroaren ibilbidea, Iruñea, 2011.
The running of the bulls, along with Hemingway, alas is the main claim to fame of Pamplona in the anglophone world. Thanks to COVID, the encierro, a part of the major local holiday the Fiesta de San Fermín (San Fermin jaia), has been cancelled in 2021. The encierro for 2022 has been scheduled for 7-8 July,

Fortificaciones en el Muro de la Ciudad, Pamplona, Navarra (Gotorlekuak aldean topatuko dugu horma, Iruñea, Nafarroa), 2011.
Like many ancient cities, Pamplona was once encircled by a wall, and like most such walls it worked best to keep inhabitantants inside, and starving, during seiges. On the front lines of battle with troops coming over the Pyrenees from what is now France, the city, once the capital of the independent kingdom of Navarra, was captured a number of times, most recently by Napoleon’s troops. Like most earlier invaders, Napoleon and his French army easily took the city. Walls are, except as devices to keep people in, rarely effective.
