PRACTICE NIGHT AT THE RACEWAY…

Thursday night. It was a freezing night for SoCal residents but probably was just a moderate winter temperature for the rest of the world. Anyways, we met up with Shige-san of Mooneyes at Irwindale Speedway to see our friend, NASCAR driver Takuma Koga, who was testing his new machine there.

木曜日の夜。南カリフォルニアの住人にとって は強烈な寒さの中､ とは言ってもここ以外の場 所なら寒いなんて言ったら怒られるくらいの普 通の冬の気温なのだろうけど... ムーンアイズ のシゲ・菅沼氏と近所のスピードウェイで待ち合わせて、ここアメリカで活躍するNASCARドライバー、古賀琢麻氏の今年最初の練習走行を見学に。

Being able to see a currently active pro racer and his brand new machine for the season, Toyota Camry, testing on a nearby track was a super valuable experience for us. And watching that with Shige-san was beyond exciting!! Shige-san and Chico-san are the people who we look up to and we respect them a lot. Shinya always tells me that there are always the forerunners who had cleared and paved the way for us. Thanks to Shige-san and those pioneers, we can enjoy motorsports here in a foreign land. Koga-san is making the way right now for the younger generation and proving that dreams come true if you aim high and spare no effort towards them.

現役のレーサーが、それも真新しいマスィーン をテストするところを間近で観られるとは、 なんて貴重なことだろう。 しかも尊敬する素敵な先輩と一緒に! 木村氏がいつも言っているのは、我々が異国の地でこうやって自由にやれているのは、日系移民の方々が今までコツコツと築いてきて得た信頼のおかげということ。 乗り 物の世界で言ったら、菅沼氏をはじめとする先駆者の方々の尽力のおかげで、自分のような油まみれの小汚い日本人でも受け入れてもらえる環境が整っているんだということ。 どこへ行ってもあのムーンアイズの目玉を見ると安心する し、長い歴史を丁寧に守っている菅沼氏の乗り物や乗り物文化に対する変わらない愛と情熱に刺激をいただいている。そして､ NASCARというアメリカ人でも夢のまた夢なレースの世界に飛び込み実際に活躍している古賀氏のパワー には、そんじょそこらのパワースポット以上に エネルギーがみなぎっている。夢は叶うと証明しながら、今まさに次の世代に道を作ってくれている最中なのだと思うと身震いしちゃうほど格好良い。

I feel very lucky to be surrounded by those cool folks who are pursuing what they love and I tried to absorb the positive energy from them as much as possible. Yep, I’m a freeloader😅 Anyway, we had such a great night.
