Shiya Kimura, El Mirage Dry Lake Bed, May 18, 2018. . Achieving maximum speed doesn’t seem to mean huge horsepower or torque. I’ve never tried this myself so I can only hazard a guess, but it seems to be a state of balance between mental preparation, equipment readiness and proper technique. I often wonder what goes through drivers minds as they sit at the start line moments before leaving. I can only assume that it’s much like any professional athlete; pre-visualization, mental checklist and focus on the end goal, but that’s only a guess. WE DID IT! A fun and successful day in the shop with Ayu and Shinya! Very thankful to have such generous and knowledgeable friends who love these obscure bikes and racing as much as I do! @menacing_ayu 🙏🙌 . SUNDAY RIDE...

with a very special friend for the first time in two and half years.

He’s also the owner of Crystal Trophy, the SR500/400 that Shinya has built several years ago.

2年半かもっと振りに友人と山乗りに行けて最高な日曜日。友人は数年前に木村氏が制作したヤマハSR400/500ベースの「クリスタル・トロフィー」のオーナーでもある。

The reason why Crystal Trophy is still at our workshop is that when Shinya build this, he was imagining the owner, our friend, riding dashingly an SR through the canyon to Crystal Lake so this project will not be completed until we see the owner rides it up there. We've tried before but there was always something standing in the way, like running out of time, sudden weather changes, minor mechanical problems, etc., and then the pandemic... So we still haven’t achieved it yet.

完成したはずなのになぜ未だにチャボにあるかと言うと、木村氏はこの友人がSRでクリスタルレイクまでの山道をヒラヒラと乗る姿を思い描いて制作にあたったので、その姿を拝むまではこのプロジェクトはコンプリートしない、ということで今まで何度かトライしているのに、ある時は時間切れ、ある時はちょっとしたメカトラブル、またある時は途中でお天気が突然悪化など、さまざまな理由で叶わずにいたため。そうこうしている内にパンデミック… (↑ここまでは何度か来ているけど、これより上のクリスタルレイクまでどうしても行けず)

So, this would be our 4th attempt and today was the day. We passed Crystal Lake and made it to Crystal Lake Cafe on the top! Finally, the project was completed. 👏🏼

そしてついに、クリスタル茶屋まで到着。今までなぜ来られなかったのか不思議なくらいすんなりと、4度目の正直。これで念願のクリスタル・トロフィープロジェクトは完成！めでたし👏🏼

We had such a wonderful Sunday 😊

The owner of the bike, Takuma Koga, who's here for the race at Irwindale Speedway this weekend stopped by to see the progress. Very inspiring.

週末アーウィンデール・スピードウェイでのレースを控えて来米中の古賀氏。忙しいスケジュールの中、経過を見に寄ってくださった。最高に似合う一台になるよう、引き続き気持ちを込めてノリノリで進めていくぞ！と刺激をいただいた木村氏なのであった。
