Is there any proof that f!aegon is actually really Elia and Rhaegar’s son? What if this is grrm exploring how important a claim really is in terms of people following you? I think he is real Aegon but in the end it won’t matter because Dany will kill him in a dance with dragons style, in TWOW.
As a (previous?) fan of GRRM, I gotta admit - fAegon has always been a bit of a thorn in my side. Interjecting this major character from out of nowhere with no forewarning just feels like pointless filler or a pointless obstacle for Dany, as if there weren’t enough loose ends to tie up in two remaining books.
Proof? No. There are assumptions from Tyrion and an origin story as told by fAegon, in other words, nothing more than “wind and words”. On the contrary, we have Daenerys seeing curious visions in the House of the Undying:
“A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering crowd.”
Quaithe warning Daenerys of those who will come to her who cannot be trusted:
“Kraken and dark flame, lion and griffin, the sun’s son and the mummer’s dragon. Trust none of them. Remember the Undying. Beware the perfumed seneschal.”
Assumed to be Victarion (kraken), Moqorro (dark flame), Tyrion (lion) Jon Connington (griffin), Quentyn Martell (sun’s son) and mummer’s dragon? Take a guess who that might be.
Pair that with Tyrion realizing that fAegon’s motivation to wed his aunt Daenerys… doesn’t really make much sense, in terms of claim:
“Good morrow to you, Auntie. I am your nephew, Aegon, returned from the dead. I’ve been hiding on a poleboat all my life, but now I’ve washed the blue dye from my hair and I’d like a dragon, please… and oh, did I mention, my claim to the Iron Throne is stronger than your own?”
As the perfumed seneschal Varys (you know, the guy who supposedly found it in his heart to rescue baby fAegon after buying a replacement baby?) said, cocks are important! So even if Aegon’s claim weren’t stronger, he has a cock. So, so very important! (🙄) But the fact he must be ‘free to wed Daenerys’ is a hint that he probably has no claim at all. Which is why Varys came up with this lie about the kid’s origin in the first place. An insurance policy.
fAegon’s exclusion from the show proves that his inclusion at all is a moot point and has no true effect on where the ending is heading (to which all signs point to being the same as the show’s).
As for the Dance of the Dragons, this is just another example of GRRM’s own style of retconning. Much like the Blackfyre Rebellion’s absence from The Hedge Knight, the ‘Dance of the Dragons’ is scarcely mentioned in GRRM’s history prior to A Dance with Dragons. Basically, he just thought up this cool historical event to parallel in his series when it was convenient to the current plot.
It’s no wonder he can’t finish his book series.
You know you're a hopelessly romantic gay girl when you have a dream about a highly detailed plan to give a cute girl your number, without insinuating that you are, in fact, crushing on her, just in case she's straight.
But I think it might work tho.....
