One of the things I really enjoy about Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is the way Lewis Carroll captures the experience in childhood of hearing a lot of different words and phrases being used by adults, but having absolutely no idea what they mean, and kind of attempting to come up with a plausible definition on your own based merely on context and your own limited experience. What is a "caucus race"? Well, obviously, it's a race where everybody runs around but never actually gets anywhere and nobody really "wins"! What is "mock turtle soup"? Well, obviously, it's a soup made from something called a "mock turtle!" (Knowing now that it's actually an imitation of Turtle Soup made with veal, it's endlessly amusing to me that the illustration of the "Mock Turtle" is essentially a sea turtle with a calf's head! Haha)
I am also delighted by how well he captures the experience of dreaming... Where nothing really makes sense and scenes change abruptly without reason or warning, but everything is also made up of a jumble of things from everyday life. You start saying one of your school lessons, but somehow all the words are coming out different and nonsensical, and sometimes this is disorienting, but other times bizarre actions seem so perfectly rational and self-explanatory that you don't question the logic of your choices until you look back on the sequence of events after waking. It's one of those books that, while written for children, only gets more enjoyable with age and understanding.
My amazing life update is that polyamory is a beautiful thing, and now I have two gfs, and those gfs also have gfs, and we all kiss ♡
okay this is NOT tastefully sad, this is just sad for the sake of being sad, Sad Art, in it's entirety, i don't care about that because it's fun to write
I'm SO far away from 1,000 boops I should stop booping and work on editing/writing help
