SPOILERS FOR DUNGEON MESHI MANGA AND ANIME! And warning for Laios x Marcille shipping? If that's needed?

Okay, okay. So, I finished watching the first season of dunmeshi and instantly got REALLY into it. I then read the manga online and like... I cannot wait any longer for this to be animated.

Before going into the anime, I was very aware that Farcille (that's how you spell it, right?) Was a very popular ship. I think it's super cute and I really see it. Especially the bath scene where Marcille is so very concerned about Falin, and how she cries when thinking about getting to eat with Falin again. I almost cried with her honestly because Marcille is so relatable it hurts. What I didn't expect was to come out of this shipping Laios and Marcille too.

I was an observer of the fandom for quite some tome before watching, so the only view I got of Laios was that he was a monster obsessed foodie with horrible social skills. Which he is. I love him. But there's more to him than that. He and his sister were both shunned by their village, leading them to become outcasts and probably cause Laios' less than optimal social skills.

Back to him and Marcille. In the beginning of the story, Marcille was not the biggest fan of Laios. By the end of it, that made a complete 180. It's shown and explained that Marcille is incredibly afraid of death. More specifically, the death of her loved ones. When the Winged Lion corrupts Marcille and influences her in reanimating her father, the whole party sees that he bears an uncanny resemblance to Laios. Marcille is worried for the lives of all her friends, of course, but this explains why her nightmare and this panel (see below) are the biggest pushes she gets to becoming lord of the dungeon.

Laios also takes responsibility for pushing her to get the book in her dream, but like Chilchuck said, it's not really their faults for her doing this. It'd be pointless to blame themselves, but Laios' encouragement probably had an unconscious effect on her already thought of plan.

I think what made me put any stock into the ship in the first place was the fact that when the party encountered mosquito succubi, Laios saw one that took the form of Marcille. Someone theorized that the succubus took the form of Marcille because Laios' desire is to see her smile which is why it appeared smiling to him at first. The succubus then leans in to kiss him, probably assuming that because of his desire, he'd just accept. Obviously, he doesn't since Marcille wouldn't do that and he's a monster fanatic so he's aware that this could be a succubus.

He states that he doesn't want the party to get the wrong idea, so at this moment he definitely doesn't see Marcille in a sexual manner but possibly a romantic one? If the succubi can know things you desire that even you don't, I'd say it's plausible.

He also just loses all previous suspicion when it transforms into a Marcille-Scylla and offers to turn him into a monster, so...

Laios and the others also manage to talk Marcille out of succumbing to the Winged Lion's power in a really sweet way of telling her things they could do when they get out of all this. Laios manages to tell her how her dream would cause more unhappiness, which completes their task of getting her to forfeit the role of dungeon lord. And they also tell her how they can naturally strech their lifespans through good habits which is incredibly cute.

And speaking of dungeon lord, I'm pretty sure it was mentioned that there could be multiple lords (maybe not in one dungeon, though. I honestly can't remember. I don't think it's possible for two lords to rule the same dungeon, but for the sake of this lil paragraph, just believe it is...) and my mind immediately went to Laios joining Marcille to stop her, or... getting corrupted in the process. And I'm glad I wasn't far off on the Laios corruption considering Ryoko Kui had thought of a Demon King Laios as an ending rather than the good king we got at the end. It's one of the many villain AUs that I actually like probably because it doesn't sound completely disconnected from canon.

Kinda heavy talk under cut!

I know this might get people angry (that's what I tend to do), so please keep an open mind. Something I tend to do is think too deep into stuff that I miss details, or I simply don't understand why someone says something. I am known irl for being able to defend literally anyone using the most evidence I can, and since I really like Apo, I will gladly defend her.

In this, I will likely seem mad at times. I'm a little bit angry. I get worked up when I think something is unfair, or I think someone is being hypocritical.

Remember, I am talking about the characters, NOT THE CONTENT CREATORS!!!!!

How the hell is Apo in the wrong for turning Sausage??? How the hell is she a monster???

I'm bringing this up because I just finished rewatching vampires, but from Abolish's pov, and Cleo said Apo was a monster because she "didn't care about anyone and all she cared about was herself."

However, how is Cleo any better? How is Apo worse for turning Sausage? Isn't Abolish the same way?

First off, Apo was forced to be turned. It was either her or someone in the militia, or she just died. When she chooses to get turned, that already proves she cares about her town mates and would rather it be herself than someone else. That proves she isn't a monster. Then, the vampires turn someone else THAT SAME SESSION! So it didn't matter what Apo did, someone was gonna get turned after whatever she picked!

Sausage was BEGGING to be turned. He was constantly wanting to be turned, and he kept talking about it and joking about it. He seemed really happy being with the militia, and he was actively trying to help them. Apo FINALLY granted his wish, and when he TURNS ON THEM, it's HER fault?? SHE'S the monster for turning HIM even though HE wanted to be turned?? At that point, let him die for his mistakes! He wanted it, he deals with it. Never ask for more than you can handle. Even then, Apo never knew Sausage was going to betray them. He seemed rather loyal to the militia. Just wanting to be turned does not mean he will betray you as soon as he is turned.

Sure, Apo just wanted to get home to her love. Didn't Abolish just want to find something and get out? Wasn't he not wanting to fight the vampires like he should have been doing in the first place, merely because he couldn't be bothered? Did Apo show more loyalty by trying to blend in and try to get information for the town using her vampiric abilities, rather than Abolish who was still nice to the vampires while they were trying to kill them? Yes, Apo was in the wrong for going along with the vampires at certain times she could've helped the humans. Even then, after the vampires started turning people, shouldn't Abolish drop the niceties like the other townsfolk? Maybe not run after them and pursue them, but still show that you aren't on their side. Yes, I still do like Abolish's relationship with Owen, and I'm glad Owen decided to go to Abolish to let himself be killed because Abolish didn't shun him away. Even then, what were the niceties doing for Legs? It got him turned. The vampires dropped the niceties long before Abolish did. At that point, Abolish wasn't picking a side.

Finally, how is Cleo any fricking better? Like, honestly tell me? They said that Sausage didn't deserve the turning, that he had done nothing wrong.

SO WHY THE HELL DID YOU WANT TO TURN PEARL THEN?????? SHE DID NOTHING WRONG EITHER!!! Turning Sausage gave him more power, allowed him to protect himself, no? That's why Cleo wanted to turn Pearl, I believe! Cleo wanted Pearl turned because they wanted to protect her, even though Pearl initially didn't want to be turned. But when Sausage, who wanted to be turned, gets turned by Apo, Apo is in the wrong? No consent is better than consent? (I'm just throwing that term in there cause technically that's what consent is, but please do not take that phrase out of context).

Genuinely, who's turning was better, Apo's or Pyro's? I will a hundred percent say Apo's, because she was thinking of the people she cared about and did it willingly. Pyro, after he got turned forcefully, tried looking for a cure, only to be caught by Scott. Pyro's turning eventually led to his death. Apo's, which she did to protect people, did not. Legundo's is the same way. He didn't want to be turned, and that eventually led to him dying.

So, turning someone who wants to be turned is better than someone who does not. So, Sausage being turned was better that Cleo's wanting to turn Pearl earlier in the series.

So, all in all, I think Cleo was overreacting when she called Apo a monster.

Apo was not a monster.

Abolish was the same way as Apo, maybe just a tad worse.

Cleo is no better than Apo.

Needed to make this post because I keep seeing this-

I keep seeing people mistake this scene where Macaque smiles at Wukong during the Specials as a sign that he forgives him.

No, he does not, he’s still trying to trust Wukong again. You can see it in the beach scene. They still bicker slighty after this scene, and during the beach scene, Macaque looks at Wukong briefly believing his words before doubting him again. Or at least still getting a bad feeling.

Macaque and Wukong are far from forgiving each other, they’re still trying to trust each other again. However Season 4 is pretty much a start.

Even though Wukong seems to like forgive Macaque, I’m pretty sure it’s because he just survived a series of self-loathing and guilt, he’s probably not fully recovered.

That being said again.

This doesn’t prove Macaque forgave Wukong yet.

People who see this completely forget the conversation MK was having with Wukong.

Prior to Macaque smiling at him, MK tries to lift Wukong’s spirits up, give him hope like Wukong did for him. Encourage him even. He makes a whole speech about getting Wukong back on his feet and becoming the Monkey King again.

However, Wukong doubts it, so he looks to Macaque.

Again some people forget the whole context of this entire scene and just miss out on crucial details BECAUSE WUKONG ISN’T EVEN ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS HERE.

IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE WITH THE WHOLE ASS CONVERSATION-

Wukong knows that MK is his biggest fan, that MK looks to him with rose-tinted glasses, that to a fault, the kid sees too much good in Wukong, he WANTS to believe Wukong is good, Wukong knows that’s his one flaw about his view of him.

So he doesn’t take the staff immediately after MK encourages him, instead he looks to Macaque.

Why? Because he’s asking him, Macaque KNOWS Wukong. He knows Wukong far too much than probably Wukong himself. Macaque can see his faults, his mistakes, he knows Macaque HATES him. HATES the Monkey King, he’s honest about his doubts, his views on Wukong. Despite Azure’s praise, Macaque sees him for what he is.

Prior to this scene, Wukong was suffering with the curse of the scroll, reliving his mistakes and we know one of his mistakes that is most definitely going to play in his head is the scene where he broke off with Macaque. The scene where he yells at Macaque and seemingly destroys his friendship with him forever.

‘No that’s you! You’re the one always running off! Looking for more power! More sources of immortality! You’re the one who wouldn’t quit while we were ahead! Not the Great Sage! He’s always trying to drag everyone into his mess!’ Macaque was right. It was him that lost his sights on power, on why he was even gaining power in the first place, it was him who tried bigger and bigger until he couldn’t carry the load anymore. He’s the one who was reckless, not Macaque.

And he was right, he dragged Macaque into this. And only hurt him, the brotherhood and MK by dragging them into the mess he created. By letting MK fight his battles, by letting Macaque get injured over and over again just because he wanted him to help regardless of Macaque’s opinion on the matter. He dragged the Brotherhood into this false sense of justice and power that they ended up getting killed or sealed away.

He hurt them. He hurt them as the Monkey King. All he ever did as the Monkey King was hurt people. That’s why he looks to the one guy that can tell him, tell him honestly.

He asks the one guy that hates his guts, that has every right to hate his guts.

If it was alright for him to BE that guy again.

The reckless, egotistical, self-centered Monkey King again. He asks Macaque, who so negatively views Monkey King’s role as a hero if he should BE that hero again.

He asks Macaque if MK is right. This time, This time he’ll listen. Just tell him if it’s okay for him to BE that guy, if he needs to take a step back, he will no questions asked.

Instead.

Macaque smiles at him.

He assures Wukong that he’s okay with it. Yes he can be that guy, flaws and all. He’s willing to give him that chance.

Macaque was giving Wukong not only permission but assurance that Wukong is allowed to be that hero again. The one that everyone adores and loves and the one that people NEED right now.

Only then does Wukong stand and take the staff once more.

Macaque and Wukong still need to trust each other again sure.

But this whole scene is just Wukong at his DEEPEST and LOWEST he’s ever been. The usually loud, cheery and expressive Monkey King was reduced to the unusually quiet, sad and barely even audible Wukong who had been beaten down by his guilt and shame. He can barely look at MK…he can barely raise his voice. And judging by how quiet he was he might’ve been crying until his voice gave out. Paired with Macaque holding grudges yet still reminiscing their good times together. Seeing THAT must’ve been so disturbing for him.

Again, Macaque has this view of Wukong. The same way he notices MK’s despair and loss of light, he notices Wukong’s change in personality. However, unlike MK, there’s a chance Macaque has never SEEN this side of Wukong. He’s always seen Wukong so confident and unbreakable. So much so he doesn’t hold back against him at all. But seeing THIS must’ve done something to him- like scared him, disturbed him.

And now he’s looking at him like that? He’s so low on self-esteem that he looks to the one guy that hates his guts more than anyone else for permission to be that guy again? It probably frightened him more than anyone ever realized.

You know i see a lot of similar things in wild fanfics when it involves his memories

The chain or anyone are always involved in it, like they play a role in having him activate the memory bc they remind him of a person he knew (which i love alot) but i feel like people forget that wild remembers things through scenery which can actually have a lot of potential.

For a few examples they’re in wars era on an empty battlefield and wild remembers either being sent out to war in a similar battlefield and he gets ptsd or they’re exploring the dungeon in Hyrule castle and he remembers being down there as a punishment or watching others suffer idk

But there are a lot of possibilities and potential for his memories and you dont need to be held back by having him need to physically feel it or needing to have a person there to activate it… (its also probably good if you wanna practice writing with scenery in your writing i think)

Idk im not a writer and i love wild gaining new memories fanfics and its always cool to imagine the type of area the writer puts them in… i mean it’s probably easier to write the fics with somebody else activating it, idk actually don’t listen to me im spouting words from the fingers

Okay, I’ve been thinking about this since, like, the middle of yesterday, I understand that everyone (or almost everyone) in Stardew Valley is Pescatarian due to the creator being one (to my knowledge at least) I hold no quarrels or grudges against Pescatarians, vegans or vegetarians because that’d be weird having bad blood with someone over their diet, but I find it kinda funny that there’s a husbandry/butcher mod for SDV

I’m still new to the fandom and haven’t played the game just yet (planning on getting it for mobile when I get the chance) but when writing fanfic for SDV is it like some unwritten rule where pescatarianism has to be included or may I imply some of them are carnivores? (I’m only curious seeing as I’m still learning about the game)

okok finals have been over for a while! I can breath... Until I go on my study abroad trip. That. Might keep me busy. Alright back to our non-regularly scheduled fandom stuff.

Something I've been wanting to talk about in relation to the Bravetrio and the Ancients and the relationships they have is like....

On one hand they all are friends and the trio wants to help/the Ancients allow them to help out. There are no bad feelings between these guys and the fact that children are being asked and allowed to handle some serious front-line stuff is all well and good. Which makes sense, I think, in terms of like... the writing? Gingerbrave and friends are functioning as the faces of the franchise like they do in all the other games, this is normal.

On the other hand, it is a little weird that these Ancient Adults are choosing to trust these children with, like, some arguably serious affairs! I don't think any of them have expressed concerns over them being in the thick of things, (which makes Hollyberry telling Princess Cookie to stay home a little interesting).

I don't really think that the Ancients are neglectful (not caring about the trio) nor do I think they are stupid (somehow thinking the trio are adults) because that doesn't seem to be the message the writing of the game is going for.

I think it's the fact that it's hard to justify Gingerbrave and Friends presence In-Universe that's a little frustrating. The Ancients probably CAN'T acknowledge that the trio are children because then the writers would need to take the time to seriously justify the presence of children in a War of Gods. Because Gingerbrave and Friends need to be there because that's how the franchise works.

Now, granted, they are making Gingerbrave a more key component in the latest update with Millennial Tree, but that doesn't quite fix all the problems in the writing before hand.
