Watching the lantern floats pass by, the thundering of the drums reverberating through your chest. The lights, colours, sounds… summer festivals in Inazuma really were amazing. With a bright grin, you turn your head to the the side, glancing over at Amber, her brown hair washed a reddish colour under the light of the lanterns. She matches your smile, linking her arm with yours as she drags you towards a street vendor, their stall overflowing with decorations.
“We’ll take two, please!!” She points towards two small handheld lanterns, and holds up two fingers. You feel a rush of affection for her as you notice the matching patterns on them, laughing at the cute animal faces. She practically bounces with excitement as the vendor hands over the lanterns to the two of you. Her excitement is infectious, and you feel your lips curling up into a hopelessly fond smile.
“They’re beautiful, aren’t they?” She murmurs. You watch as her eyes follow the lanterns in the parade, fixated on the breathtaking display of light.
“… Yeah. Beautiful.” You reply softly, admiring her figure as it’s lit up by the surrounding glow. She looks practically ethereal as she glances over to you, her green eyes catching your gaze-
Her- her green eyes? The light from the lanterns seems to dull, and the pounding of the drums is a distant afterthought as you focus on the girl in front of you. Eas her hair always that shade of reddish brown? Is the low light playing tricks on your eyes? your eyebrows furrow in confusion, and you step back, letting go of her arm.
“What’s wrong?” The sound of her confused voice snaps you back. That’s right. She sounds like Amber. That’s definitely her. But as you meet her eyes, they’re still that unnerving shade of green. Suddenly, her face flickers, blurring. You stumble back in shock, tripping over your feet. Just as you stumble, about to hit the ground, your eyes snap open, and you wake up.
“Hey, you good?” Amber sits in front of you, waving her hand in front of you, an amused smile on her face. You blink, hard, a couple of times before nodding. “I think you dozed off for a second there.”
“Yeah, I think I did.” You reply after a moment. “… Just had a weird dream.”
