"Yeah me and Jayce are kinda stuck on this problem right now" Viktor said with a light tone. "If anyone wants to try, the notes are on board 4" he pointed to a big blackboard with chalk notes all over it. He most likely wasn't serious but why not, you thought to youself. You and some of your classmates went to the board.
Your class was currently in the middle of a tour of the University of Piltover. Viktor and Jayce were kind enough to let your class see their lab. To be honest it was kind of a mess... Papers and notes everywhere, multiple coffee mugs and a dead cactus in the corner of the window.
Not to say that you were underwhelmed! You were thrilled to be on a tour like this, the academy you were attending wasn't as prestige or popular but it was what you could afford. City of progress your ass... everything was about money and it pissed you off.
That's why you were surprised when you heard that Viktor was from the undercity. Even more intriguing, you thought to yourself. You've read most of his research papers and his view on multiple science topics really resonated with you.
Some of your classmates started to leave the board and went looking around instead. Really reading the notes you started to get a better idea of what the problem might be. It was truly a simple mistake, so simple you started questioning yourself but decided to inform the duo of it anyway. Not infront of everyone tho... you don't feel that extroverted today.
"Found anything?" a voice coming from behind you said. You turned around to see Viktor. "It can get a little hypnotising after a while." he added.
"Actually yeah... effective wavelength depends on the spectral distribution of the source not the other way around." You pointed to the formula.
Viktor just stared at the board for a while. You started to question again if that was actually correct because the mistake was so small someone like him should have noticed it way earlier. "Huh, you're right. How have we not noticed that before" oh thank god, that would have been so embarrassing if you pointed out something that wasn't incorrect.
"Jayce! Come here please!" He shouted. The stress of social confrontation was starting to leave your body and it left space for small details. Like his peculiar accent. You like accents, you always have. This one stuck to your ear drums like thick honey but it was also sharp somehow.
Laughter interrupted your thought process. "Oh my god" "I know" "This is what happens when you pull so many all nighters" "Save it, like you're any better" "Actually I sleep just slightly below the recommended amou-" Jayce was interrupted by Viktor "I apologise I didn't even ask for your name." You introduced yourself and shook hands with both of them.
A classmate called your name. "Are you coming? We're meeting professor Entian next!" You could care less about the old hag that tried to deny how toxic the pollution in Zaun really was. "I'll catch up to you in a bit" you yelled back. Seeing Vikto smirk in the corner of your eye, he probably had the same opinion about her.
"Well, thank you so much, you have a very sharp eye." "Yeah I don't know how long it would have taken us to notice" Jayce added. You said something about how it happens to everyone all the time and that it's not a big deal.
They didn't make you feel like you should get out even though it was only you left looking around the lab and they started discussing some notes. "I should probably get going" you thought out loud after a while. You said your goodbyes and they thanked you again as you were walking out the door.
A few days later you got a phone call from an unidentified number. Hesitantly you picked it up but didn't say anything. "Hello? This is Viktor from The University of Piltover, am I speaking to Y/N L/N?" how did he get your number and more importantly why was he calling?
"Yeah that's me" "Perfect. I just wanted to ask if you would be interested in proofreading some more of our notes" You almost didn't catch the smile in his voice through the sweet and heavy accent. You decided to take a little risk, feeling more confident speaking through the phone "I don't think that would be necessary... unless we're speaking about the position of an assistant?"
"I was hoping to pitch that idea in person but I'm glad you beat me to it." you kept talking a little deciding on a time and a day when you'd meet for your interview. "Well, until then. Goodbye." "Goodbye!" you said with excitement and hung up. Oh my god. What just happened. Well... you'll find out next week.
