A comparison I did the other night
Angelxs Envy is a much hyped port finished bourbon bottled at 86.4 proof, msrp is ~$50 (which is what I payed) but is often found for 30-40% more because of the hype. I found it a little disappointing from a bourbon enthusiast's point of view, its almost over-sweet and the bourbon at its core is almost totally overwhelmed by the toasted marshmallow, light fruitiness, and hint of sourness of the port finish. I do think it would be a fine gift for someone who maybe is less of a boffin than me, especially since the name is so well known.
Isaac Bowman is another port finished bourbon, but it's much less hyped, bottled at 92 proof, and made in my home state. It is much more intense than the Angel's Envy, both in terms of proof and in terms of flavour. I prefer it to the AE, but it has its faults. This is a rare case of "maybe this is a little too intense", I don't think everyone would appreciate this more than the AE. But for $10 less I think its a better buy.
Angel's Envy: 88/100. Isaac Bowman: 90/100.
