In a culture defined by the media’s constructed images and idolization of our super stars, we have been led to equate being aesthetically pleasing with personal satisfaction. —Isabelle Alford-Lago
Isabelle says her gorillas are “the uncensored human, laying bare a primitiveness we can all relate to.” Despite large hairy bodies and prominent nostrils her gorillas exude self-confidence and remind each of us to be at peace with our own nature—a message Isabelle feels is important to be made in the public space. Born in Santa Cruz, Isabelle Alford-Lago, aka Isabelle Gorilla, now lives in Venice, California, where Cartwheel Art says “murals like Isabelle’s are what make Venice tick with a welcoming energy of art unfelt in other parts of the city.” This mural, however, was done in 2015 in the Los Angeles Arts District for vegan restaurant, yoga studio, and wellness center The Springs LA. @isabellegorilla @thespringsla @scenesfromthesidewalk

Leaving the gym, the trash truck was there. The person in front of me was frustrated and honking. I took a detour down the alleyway and got to see this! No matter how many times I have seen this, it always makes me smile. We always have choices on how we react to things every day.
