Kris overhearing Noelle talking about them when they're trying to beat the soul and she says she's friends with them because they're neighbors, and they instantly turn their head lower and stop facing us.

replaying isat for review purposes- siffrin reads to me as on the aro spectrum the more i play. hes only stated to canonically be ace and when they talk about aroace identity with mirabelle they dont really get into the romance aspect of it much in terms of their own feelings. but now that im being really diligent to read all the flavor text and get all the dialogue, theres a lot here i missed.

theres a part where you can check romance novels and discuss mirabelles perspectives on romance. if you check it a second time siffrin will say "wait, can you not choose who you get a crush on? it just happens?" which is. telling to put it mildly. it escalates into "crushes feel like a disease to you sometimes" as the game goes on.

another thing thats interesting to me is he starts the game pretty sex/romance indifferent. at best he shows curiosity, at worse he says its not his thing. but as they become more distressed by the time loops they start to find both repulsive. they dont really have this same experience when it comes to platonic desire. they still desperately want friends, platonic touch, and family. so its interesting to me that sex and romance are paralleled in that way.

in terms of isabeau, siffrin does initiate a kiss and is desperate to hear isabeau confess. they also do actively repeat actions that romantically fluster him. but i think that fits into their broader desire for family, connection, and their self worth issues. part of why siffrin wants to hear isabeau confess is to feel like hes worthy of love in any capacity. when siffrin flusters isabeau, the following text always refers to a desire of control or power instead of romance. i dont think siffrin is malicious to isabeau, to be clear. i think he has a severe lack of control on his life given the (gestures at everything). his interactions with isabeau read as him grasping for whatever control he can have over his own life in the fact of that.

when siffrin actually gets out of the timeloops and has to face the concept of a real romantic relationship with isabeau, they accept isas confession. but when isabeau asks "do you love me in the same way i love you though?" siffrin needs time to consider it. i think thats an incredibly important part of self actualization for siffrin. they know they deserve to be loved, they know the option is there. they dont have to take that option until they figure out who they are and what they want. and, crucially, the presence or lack of a romantic relationship has no indication of their worth as a person.
