Cute Cakes
This was an interesting piece for me to work on because it features characters I don’t know but @mount-vines gave me enough info that I think I did a good job!
“Ah, here it is!” Nayel smiled at the little cafe.
While it was small, Nayel had talked about how wonderful the cakes were at the Grand Utopia Bakery. Isach wasn’t too picky when it came to cakes, so he trusted Nayel knew what he was talking about. As they entered the bakery, warm smells wafted off the pastries. Isach inhaled deeply, taking in the scent. Quickly, he ran over to the case holding the cakes. They were honestly some of the most beautiful things he had ever seen. The details were so exquisite!
“I told you they were beautiful,” Nayel said with a small smile.
“These are so lovely!” Isach replied. “Look at this one!”
Nayel couldn’t help but smile as Isach looked over the cakes. Honestly, it was adorable. Isach had been looking around for shops that sold cakes. He swore it wasn’t because he wanted to look at the cakes but Nayel knew better. Here, Isach was so relaxed. He was looking at all the baked goods, marveling at how pretty they were. He squealed with delight when he saw a baker working on a cake that looked like a kitten. Pressing up against the glass, Isach watched as the baker rolled out some fondant and then slowly, she shaped it into a cat.
“That is so adorable!” Isach grinned before straightening up. “If you like that sort of thing of course.”
Nayel chuckled.
“I won’t tell anyone you know,” They said. “About you thinking cakes are cute.”
Iscah, blushed slightly and didn’t say anything. He had a reputation to uphold but he couldn’t help it. He enjoyed cute things and he liked cakes. It was hard not to squeal at all the adorable things being created with food. Once more, they pressed their face to the glass. The baker added some whiskers to the front of the cake and then placed ears on top. Honestly, it was one of the cutest thing he had ever seen.
“These are honestly some of the most beautiful cakes I have ever seen,” Isach went back to the display case. “Look at this one.”
Nayel joined Isach at the case. The cake was blue and on top of it were dolphins. It looked like the dolphins were coming out of the ocean. It was pretty adorable. It was also nice to see Isach relax a bit. Normally, the wizard was so reserved and quiet. Granted, with his past job, people didn’t like him. In the war, Isach was the person who killed injured soldiers who had no hope of being cured. It wasn’t a glamorous job but Iscah had to do it. However, that didn’t change the fact that people hated him. He couldn’t blame him. Isach had killed innocent men.
But that didn’t make it hurt any less.
Nayel wished people could see Isach in their eyes. Isach appeared to be hard and rough but he was a kind, gentle soul. When he let his walls down, Isach was a bit of a goof. But people didn’t want to get to know Isach. They just saw a killer. But Nayle knew better. He saw Isach for he really was. If people didn’t want to get to know Isach, then it was there loss.
“Which one do you want?” Nayel asked.
“I can’t decide.” Isach replied.
There were just so many different cakes! It was a bit overwhelming. How could he possibly choose between them all? Every time he looked at a different one, he saw one that was even more adorable than the last one.
“What if I bought one of each?”
“What?” Iscah looked at Nayel. You can’t possibly be serious!”
“Why not?” Nayel started speaking to the person behind the counter. “I’d like to buy some cakes please.”
“Which ones sir?”
“Well, Isach? Which cakes do you want?”
It took Isach a while to chose, but he chose ten different cakes. Each one had some type of adorable design. He thought the bakers would have found him weird but they merely smiled. They had to carry a bunch of boxes, but Isach was so happy that he didn’t care. Today had been a happy day for him.
“You know, if you’re not busy tomorrow, there is a nice little bakery on Main Street,” Nayel said as they headed home. “If you’re not busy tomorrow, we could go there. I heard they make a cake that looks like a unicorn.”
“Really?” Isach perked up. “I’m free in the afternoon. Why don’t we visit it then?”
“Great, it’s a date.” Nayel smiled.
