Painting by Peter Paul Rubens
God this painting is so expressive it really shows the true horror of the situation, the way Pirithous and Ischomache look like they’re on the verge of tears at the fact they might lose each other :(

Imagine dying and leaving your child behind, your husband goes to the Underworld (where you now reside) and instead of rescuing you Orpheus style HE TRIES TO KIDNAPS THE QUEEN OF THE UNDERWORLD AND KIDNAPS A CHILD AND LEAVES YOUR SON BEHIND!!!
I hope Hades let Ischomache torment Pirithous like a damn fury.
Ischomache elbowing that bitchass centaur
Ok from now on I’ll call Hippodamia wife of Pirithous: Ischomache, not just to differentiate her from Hippodamia of Pisa but also bc the name means “to withstand a battle” and I think that’s neat.
I hate how every time Eurytion is mentioned it’s always said that he only attempted to harm Ischomache bc he was drunk (implying that if he was sober he wouldn’t hurt her), bc isn’t drunkenness always the excuse abusers make for their horrible behavior? Tbh I think that Eurytion was eyeing Ischomache since he first saw her and used his drunkenness as an excuse to kidnap her.
Ischomache is like Philonoe in that both have multiple names bc they have no defining characterization, like… Hippodamia has maybe one alternate name and Andromeda has no alternate name bc her mythos is well defined and agreed upon. Does that make sense?
