when my mother says I deserve better i snap to your defense out of habit he still loves me i shout she looks at me with defeated eyes the way a parent looks at a child when they know this is the type of pain even they can't fix and says it means nothing to me if he loves you if he can't do a single wretched thing about it

“I think it gives you some character,” Remington was referring to the very small line of stitches on Isek’s forehead, and he got a little more comfortable on the pillow before he grinned. “Maybe you’ll look a little less The Riddler in a tight onesie and more Two Face.” He wasn’t sure how long they’d been holed up in the bedroom, though the day after the event seemed to be filled with so much chaos that it had taken long enough to actually regain their bearings. With all that had happened, one of their own being shot in place of Isek, Remington couldn’t really be more grateful. Though he was glad to know he wasn’t the only one dumb enough to jump in front of a gun for the man beside him.

[ Cass → Isek ] You should really close your shades at night. Just saying.

[ Cass → Isek ] Like what do you tell her your job is?
[ Cass → Isek ] Coffee importer might be a good suggestion. Like on General Hospital.

How long had he been sitting there? Long enough to forget what time it was, apparently. Remington had wanted to be in then out before Iskender came back, it would be easier that way. The ugly purple and red spot on his jaw was tell tale enough, and he already knew it was something that wouldn’t go away for at least a week or two. Hiding it from Isek wouldn’t have been possible, but he had wanted a day or two to go by before he had to admit what had gone wrong. What had gone wrong three years ago.
Emir’s words resounded clearly in his mind. It was like someone had recorded them and placed them on repeat. At one point, he’d thought of the man from the Faction – Julian – he would be the answer to all his problems. But could he really ask someone to pull the trigger against a man he used to love like a brother? Not even Remington knew that. What he did know, however, was that he was utterly hopeless. There was no hiding it now. Emir was going to out him, and then he’d be caught in a battle between the family – and all he could do was call the elder Kovali son a liar. “You’re home,” he lifted his head up from his hands, moreso surprised than anything else. “I was...I was just about to leave.”
Location: The Cabaret Time: 12:14am
The Cabaret was filled to the brim for the night. It was Saturday night, and it wasn’t unusual to find odd requests filtering through for dancers and occasionally a waitress on the floor. He knew where he’d put Cassidy — and for now, he was going to find endless amusement from where he wanted to have her next. All it’d taken was a word to the bouncer at his office door to go call for her, and for now, he’d wait. His jacket had been discarded on the couch earlier, and he looked over at the man who was leaning against the desk Remington had just moved away from. “Try not to make a scene, yeah?” He poses the fake request with a small smile, one that he usually reserved for Iskender. Remington wasn’t exactly dressed for the part of manager; he’d taken for a more casual look since he wasn’t planning on being near the floor at all during the night. His presence wasn’t always required, but just knowing he was in the building seemed to be enough for most. He heard movement in the hallway once he looked away from Isek, and he moved over to lean against his desk so he could pick up his drink and finish it off. “Cassidy – glad you could make it.” Like she had a choice.
