if you think about it. and maybe this has been said already. But if you think about it. Ishim eluding to himself having a “weakness” for humans with his own lover that he had to ‘carve out’ sort of proves that all angels and archangels have this innate “weakness” (which I guess could be loosely interpreted as a want for connection? maybe a want in general since that’s a people thing and angels aren’t supposed to be people????)
but like. Ishim had that ‘weakness.’ Lily’s lover who I’m forgetting the name of had that weakness. Cas and Michael need no introduction. Even Metatron, Gabriel & Lucifer had that weakness in a way, by wanting a genuine familial relationship with Chuck (and jack, but the genuine part is a bit dubious on lucifers end lol). I’m probably missing out on plenty other angels who dared to yearn but you see what I mean.
it’s like a hereditary thing they all seem to have, and im going my usual stretch further to say jack also has that weakness, except he isn’t primed to repress it like the rest of heaven and just feels it very intently right off the bat. he already mourns the relationship he never got to have with Kelly, he’s persistent in proving himself to dean and even directly disobeys dean to do that. he wants friends and romance and, just like Cas, he’s so latched on to the Winchesters as his family and home that he’d do some real insane shit for them. chuck calls him their lapdog in s15. he goes to bat for thousands of strangers in apocalypse world who didn’t even want him in the camp at first
this isn’t really a deep character study but it’s like, if I had a nickel for every angel in the show that secretly yearned or rebelled specifically because they yearned, I’d have enough nickels to point out the pattern. call that shit a chronic yearning disability the way heaven treats it
