If you're still doin matchups, whaddayagot for Merlin? He's an ex-mordrem vari that spends most of his time hunting and fur-trapping in the shiverpeaks cuz a rugged mostly-solitary life is more pleasant than regularly looking other people in the eye and wondering if they know who he was, or if he was responsible for ruining their lives or that friend of theirs. He doesn't remember what it was like to be under the dragon's control and prefers it that way. He's happily partnered to @bird-bureau's necromancer-florist cerenhir but could use a low-key friend, especially an outdoorsy one. He's also got a service plant-hound named Gin that helps him stay level in tense situations :>
HMMM. this one is a toughie! my kneejerk reaction for an outdoorsy character is to say marwyd but to say he'd mesh well with an ex-mordrem after all that happened with him would probably not fly well. i think he'd be too caught up in his own mind. so instead i think i'll say ishmayl!!! which is marwyd's dad. sorta. i believe you met him briefly at the rancher's party :) (NOT IN A GOOD LIGHT FOR HIM BUT STILL!!)
they're both very much outdoorsy people. though from two different extreme climates which makes me think they both could learn a lot from one another via the exchanges that can have. not only that, but they both have a past they're not proud of in different ways. ishmayl, lost in his fervor of battle and a sense of validation. they both could also learn from each other through learning what the other did and having a sort of mutual reconciliation. it's hard to let go of the guilt. a service hound too... lord, ishmayl would be so transfixed. i think he'd ask about it and maybe look into a service animal of his own one day. he doesn't sleep well and he's getting old (he's nearing mid 50s technically. me wishing there was good salt and pepper hair.) so he's got a lot of chronic pain and not to mention The Trauma.
anyone who can get past his sort of awkward, silent facade i think would find that ishmayl is a loyal and good friend but he's just sorta. Odd. he doesn't know how to approach people normally. and hey! that sorta carries onto marwyd. the whole family tree (haha sylvari joke here) is Fucked Up!
