I just finished the book Born To Run by Christopher McDougall. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. It outlines Chris' story to the mountains of Northwestern Mexico to find the legendary Tarahumara, or Rarárumi (The Running People).
This is a culture of people (I'd have to call them primal) that spend their days running. Not for a medal, not for a nice booty or praise from others. They just LOVE IT. And I'm not talking running a few miles here or there. I'm talking about hundreds upon hundreds of miles every week, with thin pieces of leather strapped to their feet and frijoles in their bellies.
They live off pinole and iskiate, made from corn flour and chia seeds, respectively. I did make iskiate and I can honestly say it is nature's Red Bull - the texture is a little strange, like jello, but the flavor is inoffensive and it definitely gives you a kick! :)
If you run, jog or are an aspiring runner, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK. It will literally change your life.
Have any of you read it? What did you think?
